Ban scam tainted IPL. Start Indian Basketball league and make ISL stronger by adding more teams. Or merge ISL and I-league in future so as to make it more competitive. If this fails then they should allow ISL clubs to play in I-league in future as per FIFA rules and regulations.
IPL was built on the cashing on of already established superstars of cricket. Tendulkar ki team, Dada ki team, Dhoni Helicopter Shot. Mix some Bollywood stars and it became evening entertainment masala on TV. As stars became old, retired, the viewership/sponsorship is bound to go down. Remove Dhoni and his Helicopter shot, valuation of Chennai IPL team will go down drastically. For Mumbai Indians, loudest cheers in Wankhede Stadium is when Camera focus on their non playing team member-Tendulkar. People come because they like their cricket stars(who are now retired) and Bollywood stars. Cant go on forever like this. Thats why some people are doing unethical corruption means also to take out as much money as possible. It will take a generation to again produce stars like Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Dhoni and then encash them again in IPL. Till then, its a road downhill.
Cricket going down in India is a myth. I've heard it multiple times in the past. There were so many. Azhar - jadeja, Cronje, Greg Chappell and 2007 WC. It has always survived because it's the game Indians understand the most.
As of Sachin, he's Indias biggest celebrity and will always gather the loudest cheers anywhere in India crossing all regional and language barriers.
@atuljg Look at the sponsorship amounts and TV rights for IPL and Indian cricket as compared to few years ago. Compare the figures every year and how many corporates are showing interest in sponsoring Indian Cricket or IPL teams or buying slots of TV ads or chennels across the world? There is a slowdown. I am not talking about lack of love for cricket in the mind of average Indian, I am taking about actual financial figures. Tendulkar is not playing nor he is Coach. Still Mumbai Indians wants cheer from crowd every 10 minutes by showing him on bench. Remove him and TV valuation will go down. If Dhoni retires, you think Chennai team will increase their viewership or sponsorship? Sponsors pay money for stars playing cricket, not camera focus and cheers for old retired ex-player sitting on bench. 5 years ago, BCCI was getting 3.3 crore rupees per game as sponsorship and their was a long queue of corporates. Last year only Micromax came and that too with 2 crore offer. this year they are saying that amount will go to even 1.5 crore rupees per match. Decline of 50% since big players retired. http://www.livemint.com/Consumer/5VX574uOFeR7Dh0wnoWbhM/BCCI-seeks-title-sponsors-for-international-domestic-matche.html
Meh, that is nothing for a young league that is going through a transition phase... once it gets out of it they will be stronger than ever.
Corruption in Cricket is the equivalent of head injuries in the NFL (American football).... people think those things will kill the sports off but in reality, they won't.
Person at the centre of all this has now joined the ISL. Next will most probably be Lalit Modi joining the bandwagon. All hail Indian Football. #LetsFootball
It is always beneficial to import expertise if one does not possess it. I'm sure now ISL will displace IPL as the prime instrument to garner black money.
