The most anticipated derby in the country will not be held in Kolkata this season...
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has informed Mohun Bagan and East Bengal that the Kolkata derbies will not be held at the Salt Lake Stadium in the 2015-16 I-League.
The Kolkata derby, which is undoubtedly the marquee clash of the competition, was expected to be the only fixture to be played at the aforementioned venue with the rest of the home games of the Kolkata clubs slated to be held at the Barasat stadium.
However, with the 2017 U-17 World Cup approaching and the terrible condition of the pitch coming into light during the Indian Super League (ISL), the governing body of Indian football has sent a notice to the clubs instructing that the derbies will have to be organized outside the city.
While Ranchi and Cuttack have emerged as potential venues for the two high-profile encounters, the Kanchanjanga Stadium at Siliguri still remains the first choice for the Red and Golds' officials.
