Neither ISL nor I-league will get AFC Spots because that would put the status of the other league in question.
Also,AFC has shown unwillingness to grant an AFC Cup PO spot to ISL.
This leaves AIFF with no other option other than create a Super League that would eventually decide the AFC Spots.
So basically, the I-League and ISL will be like unofficial tournaments and this Super Cup is the AFC recognized official one as it gives the winner and runner-up the chance to play in AFC competitions?
I-league cannot be unofficial league. It is the official league. As per afc rules, a club has to satisfy both club licensing as well as sporting criteria in order to participate in afc cup. Look out for entry manual on afc website. Only the club which finish 1st 2nd 3rd in top official league and 1st in official cup tournament can compete in afc cup.
ISL clubs will be 'awarded' national licenses by AIFF but IL clubs will be fined Rs 1 lakh for breach of each criteria (resolution passed in last GB meeting).
Nice even ground for play. Tells a ton for what's inside AIFF's mind. Why blame IMGR when the Fed is doing this. I am sure the 'top league' lL will have the privileged afternoon weekday matches and ISL will be pushed to the evening weekend matches. Way to go.
