Exactly! This is a great rule and I really love the idea of teams having to sign a mandatory eight Indian players on yearly contracts. This would guarantee 64 Indian players on ISL yearly contracts initially which is not terrible at all.

I am a bit confused on the DP rule though as I thought this is what we already had? How were marquees signed before? Did they count to the salary cap before? Were there rules? Also, under the DP rule in MLS, the marquees can be anyone... from Drogba, to some player from Venezuela who scored over 20 goals there and who no one knows... will that be allowed now?

Love how they are keeping the salary cap as well then and also they are doing what MLS is scared to do which is treat the players as humans and make this a free market.

Well, that is dumb... but good in a way I guess. I wonder if they will go full DP rule like MLS where only part of the marquee's salary is counted on the salary cap and the rest is not (So like, $300,000USD in the salary cap and the rest of the $700,000USD is not).

Brilliant couple of news with ATK and potential changes in ISL.

The option of doing away auctioning is not a problem now as we see franchises slowly having settled teams and no major churn in players is expected.

Nevertheless the prospect of a live auction was unique which set the ISL apart from anything we have seen so far in indian football. Excellentlly managed and was gripping too.

Plus it was news enough to be taken seriously and showed visiblly how the money purses were opened up in ISL.

All working towards a one league in 2017?

Ya, but while the money purses being opened is nice, we need to err on the side of caution about it. We're obviously still in the learning phase when it comes to all this and while the auction was nice, it just does not make that much sense for football.

What could happen in the future is a draft from the ISL Young players that are training with IMG-Reliance. Once they reach a certain age the ISL could host a draft similar to college drafts in the US but that is really it. Continuity is very important in football in order to create an identity with the fans.

Chennaiyin are leading in that category with the likes of Jeje Lalpekhlua, Jayesh Rane, Elano, Mendoza etc. being considered as part of the culture at the clubs.

Nato likely to join Lille B

Ofentse Nato is likely to join the reserve side of former French Ligue 1 champions Lille OSC during the current transfer window. Gazette Sport had previously reported that Paul Mitchell, Nato’s agent, was seeking a move for the midfielder in France and Spain and their search appears to have proved fruitful.
The Zebras vice captain has been training with Gaborone United since last week while awaiting developments of his agent’s club search in Europe. Moyagoleele had made the first attempt to sign him on loan but they were made aware of the player’s desire to move to Europe and they accepted the reality of being on standby if his desired move did not materialize.

A source within the GU ranks informed this publication that the player will head to France this week and Lille B is his destination. Lille B is the feeder team of the former French league champions, those who impress while playing for the feeder team are normally promoted to the first team or to train with them in order to get closer to the technical team.

The reserve side has African players such as Lebo Mathiba, a South African under 23 striker and Senegal’s Mour Samb who could help Nato settle in well at the club. Stopilla Sunzu, a Zambia defender who won the 2012 AFCON tournament is part of the Lille OSC main squad but has featured for Lille B on several occasions.

Lille’s feeder team is coached by Stephane Adam who nurtured the career of Belgian superstar and Chelsea forward Eden Hazard. The reserve side has served as a stepping stone for some of the world’s best young players in recent years, for example: Hazard, Liverpool’s Divock Origi, Mathieu Debuchy (Arsenal), Lucas Digne (PSG) and Crystal Palace playmaker Yohan Cabaye went through the  second team in order to earn a place in the main squad.

THE Central Coast Mariners have completed a transfer coup, signing former Liverpool star Luis Garcia until the end of the 2015/16 season.

The 37-year-old forward, who recently competed in the Liverpool Legends match in Sydney, will remain on Australian shores and end a two-year spell in retirement.

Garcia has played for the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, winning Champions League and FA Cup titles during his three years at Anfield.

He has not played competitively since his time with Atletico Kolkata in the Indian Super League in 2014, but will come out of retirement to feature for the Mariners as their marquee player.

“I am delighted to be joining a club like the Central Coast Mariners. This is an exciting challenge for me to play in the Hyundai A-League and with such a progressive club like the Mariners,” Garcia told the club’s website.

“I am really looking forward to being on the Coast, meeting my fellow players, meeting the fans and to entertain them with my style of play.

“One of the things that attracted me to the club was the opportunity to share my experience with a young playing group. I am also looking forward to playing football in one of the most beautiful places in the world.”

Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp also revealed he was delighted with the club’s ability to lure a player of Garcia’s quality.

“This is a huge opportunity for not only the Central Coast Mariners and the Central Coast region but also for football in Australia,” Mielekamp said.

“It continues our journey towards becoming the most entertaining, innovative and community minded sports brand in Australia.

“I also want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Mike Charlesworth and Peter Storrie for their leadership and commitment to help take this club to where we all want it to go.”
