Its unfair to criticize the fans for not turning up in a-la isl mode. Firstly there is not been much promos regarding the tournament in fact the press conference was infamous for the political controversy. Secondly its happening in Trivandrum a more residential city unlike the cosmopolitan city of Cochin where hardcore fans from northern kerala could easily come. Thirdly it is happening immediately after ISL.
Now that being said could we look forward for the debut of arjun tudu or that malayale lad jayan?
How is Kerala losing out in football 'solely attributable' to AIFF? Does KFA not have a role in that?
In my opinion, Kerala is still producing fine footballers. The general fall in standard is linked to that of the national football. What failed Kerala is the lack of organizational capability on part of the officials. This may be generic, and it is showing in how they go about managing things -- be it a club (Kochi FC/ Viva Kerala/ Kochi Tuskers/ Kerala Blasters and so on), an association (KFA), an event (this SAFF). The whole thing may also be highly politicized/ corrupt.
This is not to say these issues are not present in other parts of the country. Far from it, these are the norms elsewhere too; but here, these are getting the upper hand.
All these are valid for West Bengal too, and results are also showing.

Maybe, state leagues should be directly run by AIFF with the best teams (1-4) allowed in a knockout national level tournament.
