A number of popular players from the high-profile league have signed for the lower-division Spanish teams over the last few weeks.
Hans Mulder, the Dutch-Spanish midfielder who plied his trade for Chennaiyin FC in the third edition of the Indian Super League, has joined Spanish third division side Club Deportivo Eldense. The Real Zaragoza youth team player was a pivotal part of the Delhi Dynamos set-up in the first couple of seasons, but made a move to Chennai to join the Marco Materazzi coached outfit, where he eventually enjoyed pretty limited playing time.
On the other hand, Portugese defender Henrique Sereno, who had scored the equalizer in the ISL final this season, has also found a new outfit, having signed for Spanish second division club UD Almeria. The club already has Kolkata skipper Borja Fernandez in their ranks and have now roped in the former Porto defender, who was brought in midway into the season by the Sourav Ganguly co-owned side.
Among Sereno's teammates, Javi Lara has signed for Cordoba while Tiri has joined Marbella FC - both playing in the second tier of Spanish football.
