A write-up in Ebela laments the extinction of this divine manna--luchi (puri) with kochi pathar jhol (kid goat curry) from the cuisine of the global Bengali (http://ebela.in/lifestyle/in-search-of-a-lost-bengali-recipe-luchi-and-panthar-mangsho-dgtl-1.521787)...I remember that when i was a child, Sundays would be incomplete without it and lazing in the afternoons...alas , in these days of our 'sick hurry and divided aims', where is the time to relish such things?

Those who are feeling envious can always console yourselves with the fact that you would always be in the pink of health whereas the 'sinners' will get their just desserts...on that note, the short story 'The Luncheon' by W. Somerset Maugham for all of you http://www.imbila.org/docs/Eng FAL Gr 10 Story 6 The Luncheon.pdf
Classic Mumbai Dish but I think that it is known by different names in other cities. Mix of puffed rice, Sev, potatoes, tomatoes, Onion, masala, Chutneys, chillies, crushed puri. It can be salty, spicy, sweet or tangy - a cacophony of flavours. Best experience - Chowpatee or Juhu Beach in Mumbai.
