@Deb_Ban Hilsa Fish is so expensive. I often wonder how Bengali people can afford to buy it so regularly. In my state, Rohu Fish is considered great. ha ha ha. At 300 rupees kilo, we find it expensive.
Why did Mohun Bagan choose Prawns? Hooghly River habitat favourable for Prawns or is there any story behind this?
Bengalis -- either the Eastern or the Western variety -- will eat Hilsa even taking a bank loan. Whereas Rohu or Katla (a personal favourite) is the daily driver, they cannot satiate the taste buds of an elated Bong.
It beats me that Ghotis swear on the lobster -- not even a fish, an insect so to say (though it doesn't have to be a fish always). There is no historical evidence why Bagan chose Prawn for themselves. Maybe because of the fact that it rivals the taste and flavour of Hilsa when cooked with coconut. I, for one, always fall for it.
A culinary derby between the Hilsa and the Prawn will always end in a stalemate.
They usually ate fish twice a day...nowadays, with the globalization of food culture, especially in urban centres, things are a bit problematized....nevertheless, fish remains one of the favourite Bengali cuisines to this day
