@munna, Hilsa fish are got in Irawaddy basin, Ganges basin, Narmada and Indus mouth. Tastes vary. Bongs will fight to death to claim the supremacy of Hilsa from the Ganges.
Also, Sultan Mohammed Bin Tughlak was suspected to have died from overeating of the fish from Sind (Indus). Of course, he was not known to be an East Bengal fan.

It is not found in Maharashtra. In Gujarat, it is present in Bharuch Region on the mouth of River Narmada and called Palva/ Pallo/ Palla depending on the person. As local consumption of Fish is less in Gujarat, large sized Hilsa which you see in Bengal market is caught in places like Bharuch.
