I am also a huge fan of milk cake but i like ghaver more I used to visit my nani ji in my kid days , she lived in mumbarakpur alwar and it was very common there to hv milk cake as a sweet dish But i liked ghaver more 😍 , for me nothing beats ghaver and ras malayi in sweet dishes
Love idlis . You need to have the right chutney and sambhar to enjoy idli . And I i have a problem with the sambhar they give in delhi with the idli . Only a limited no. Of South indian restaurants give decent sambhar.
Last month I had this dish called alu Jhurijhuri alu bhaja from a Bengali shop which was on swiggy . It was surprisingly similar to a Chinese dish , a fried version of tu dou si that I used to have in China . Got me curious about the Chinese community in Kolkata .
Try this thatte idli if you go to karnataka side... I tried it at my in laws place in Jamkhandi... brilliant stuff 1 idli is is almost equivalent to the portion size of 2-3 normal idlis and cost 10 or 15bucks they give two chutneys with it..
North Indian sambhar tastes different then from the South. In Karnataka and Maharashtra (courtesy Udupi Tiffin Centers), Sambhar is on a sweeter side. Probably they add jaggery there. In Tamil Nadu, it is more fiery while coconut can be felt in Kerala version of Sambhar. Vegetables also vary from region to region.
But yes - things like Idli Dosa Sambhar are overpriced and not upto the mark in North indian eateries. Ingredients, oil, vegetable all make a difference.

One of my favorite dishes, but as far as I know it is a traditional Bengali dish, no Chinese links whatsoever
