When asked whether it will make any different in quality of the ISL if it has to adopt the 3+1 rule of AFC about recruiting foreign players, he said, “I had said earlier that personally I am in favor of more Indians in the starting XI. We have now 6 foreigners out of 11, two more than most of the AFC nations. I think next year it should be 6 Indians and 5 foreigners.”
The forward shared his thoughts on where the Indian game is lacking right now, putting it down to the system not defining roles clearly for players.
"The main difference is that player roles are defined back in Europe. For example, a defender is focussed on how to position himself, when to push up, track back and he really focuses on his own role. In India, those roles are not defined well. It is an area they should improve," he laid bare his thoughts.
Today meet Rivaldo during Delhi Dynamos grassroots clinic . Got T-Shirt Signed also , Bad luck not able to get picture clicked with him . Talked about ISL , Neymar , Brazil with him .
“I have heard a lot of things about Indian football from Zico, Elano, Lucio and the other Brazilians who came here. So my impression is positive,” he said
Speaking on the way forward for the game in the country Rivaldo said, “ There is only one way, hard work. India is a big country. So, we can find many good players. It is important for the foreigners who come here to teach something to the local players,“ he affirmed. Citing the example of Japan Rivaldo continued, “At the end of Zico’s career in Japan, they signed many foreigners. But, now they are on their own. They don’t need help. It is because they were dedicated. They worked very hard. Now, they make the World Cup every time. I hope this can happen in India too.”
Italy’s world cup winning footballer and presently the coach of Indian Super League side Delhi Dynamos, Gianluca Zambrotta has supported the rule of playing 6 foreigners in an ISL team. According to Zambrotta, “For me talent is important for a footballer irrespective of him being a foreigner or an Indian. I have no problems with 6 foreigners playing in the league.” http://xtratime.in/football/zambrotta-differs-with-zico-votes-for-6-foreigners-in-isl/
If you have 3+1 in ISL, back to square 1. You would refurbished I-league itself. ISL seems to be loosing plot due World cup and BFC success. You can't just push the AFC cup finalists from the football scene just due to the money or contract with IMGR. Let's see next season. Hopefully this drama gets over soon and the real football season starts
