AIFF exco ratifies Vision India re-launch, AFC to approve by yearend

NEW DELHI: The Executive Committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has ratified the re-launch of the Vision India development programme for the districts/cities of Mumbai, Pune and Chandigarh under a new format.

In a letter dated 26 May to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the AIFF also informs that it will re-launch the AFC-sanctioned development programme in Aizawl (Mizoram) and Cochin (Kerala) next.

It may be recalled that the programme was launched under the specific project of football development in India and had started off in Delhi, Kerala and Goa in 2004, at the states levels, but the programme failed and was withdrawn.

In the changed programme, the focus is on smaller cities and districts.

Earlier, in April, the AIFF had nominated the five cities to the AFC to restart its Vision Asia programme focusing on projects at the district or city level instead of the state level as was under the previous practice.

This is because India has large states and implementing the AFC Vision Asia programme at the state level has been difficult. The AIFF now hopes that the format change to the smaller district/city focus will resolve the problem.

Before the re-launch is given a go, the AFC Vision Asia Committee will have to deliberate and endorse the AIFF’s decision in its meeting on June 18, before the matter is sent up finally for approval by the AFC Executive Committee in a meeting scheduled to be on July 29.

The re-launch is then expected to start with a pre-assessment visit, followed by an assessment visit in the last quarter of the year.

Vision Asia in a continental development programme of the AFC focusing on all important elements of football including competition, refereeing, marketing and media.
