And why wouldn't it when motivation comes from close quarters. Simranjeet Singh, a probable for of the under-22 Asian Football Championships, recalled how his eight month ordeal after a knee surgery did not seem half as bad, with his father who also happened to be a doctor, helping him cope with rehab.</p><p style="margin: 5px 0px 10px; padding: 0px; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px; text-align: justify; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">Simranjeet, a 20-year old midfielder, who had represented India at the U-13 and U-14 levels and later went on to be selected for the Tata Football Academy (Jharkhand) is now well on his way back. The U-22 Championships at Oman seem a distinct possibility, while Simranjeet has also managed to earn a contract with Pailan Arrows for the next I-League season. But it did not look all that rosy even a year back.</p><p style="margin: 5px 0px 10px; padding: 0px; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px; text-align: justify; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">“It all happened in 2011 when at the Nationals in Jharkhand, I twisted my knee in the third match and could no longer be a part of the tournament. My father who is also a doctor, consulted a specialist at Jalandhar and he advised me to undergo surgery. By then, I was a part of Tata Football academy and was in the reckoning for the junior selection. Thankfully the surgery was fine and I was advised rehabilitation after one month. My father motivated me to stay strong, and considering he himself is a doctor and would never lose hope, it helped me come out of harsh times,” said Simranjeet after the practice session at Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday.</p><p style="margin: 5px 0px 10px; padding: 0px; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px; text-align: justify; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">His rehab went on for eight months and Simranjeet said thoughts of never being able to catch up with his contemporaries haunted him often. But he adds that the recovery activities and the rehabilitation exercises kept him on track. “You could say I recovered fast as I started my strengthening exercises exactly after the completion of one month. It consisted of swimming, jogging and gym work. That helped me stay focused as till then I hadn't sacrificed much on my fitness. With that routine, I joined practice after eight months and frankly, everything was like before I got injured,” he added.</p><p style="margin: 5px 0px 10px; padding: 0px; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px; text-align: justify; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">Undergoing training at the camp under Arthur Papas at the Ambedkar stadium, Simranjeet is all praise for the Australian. He says that his style of training is what makes him different. Not only his motivation techniques but also his physical conditioning methods have struck a chord with youngsters like Simranjeet. “Unlike other coaches who stress a lot on fitness and make you do rounds, Papas has been very innovative. His drills are very tiring but at the same time we don't realise our fatigue. The output is more with emphasis on skill as well. He likes to keep the ball on the ground,” Simranjeet explains.</p><p style="margin: 5px 0px 10px; padding: 0px; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px; text-align: justify; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">It has been 12 years since he took to playing football at his native place Gurdaspur in Punjab from where Simranjeet shifted base to Chandigarh due to the lack of facilities. With the right exposure and training, opportunities came his way and Simranjeet was picked by the TFA and completed both his junior and senior level programs under the tutelage of Richard Hood, the coach there. At 20, he was awarded a contract with Pailan Arrows and now has a chance to be one of the hopefuls breaking into the last 23 that head to Oman.</p><p style="margin: 5px 0px 10px; padding: 0px; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px; text-align: justify; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "><br></p><p style="margin: 5px 0px 10px; padding: 0px; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px; text-align: justify; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "><a href="http://www.indianexpress.com/news/rehab-begins-at-home-and-ends-in-delight-for-simranjeet/958771/0">http://www.indianexpress.com/news/rehab-begins-at-home-and-ends-in-delight-for-simranjeet/958771/0</a>

The 19-year old footballer from Kolkata hails from a <a href="http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/family-gets-him-started-passion-keeps-him-there/961721/#" class="kLink" id="KonaLink0" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 255); cursor: pointer; font-family: inherit !important; border: 0px none transparent !important; background-image: none !important; background-color: transparent !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; display: inline !important; top: 0px; right: 0px; bottom: 0px; left: 0px; outline: none; position: static; font-size: inherit !important; "><font color="#0000ff" style="font-size: inherit !important; font-family: inherit !important; position: static; "><span class="kLink" style="border-top-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-left-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: rgb(0, 0, 255); padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; background-image: none; background-color: transparent; width: auto !important; float: none !important; display: inline !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; position: static; ">football </span><span class="kLink" style="border-top-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-left-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: rgb(0, 0, 255); padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; background-image: none; background-color: transparent; width: auto !important; float: none !important; display: inline !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; position: static; ">background</span></font></a>, with his father a full time coach and his elder brother a club level player back home. But even when talent is hereditary, an additional element of passion is needed to groom and raise the level of the sport. Pranoy, thankfully, is blessed with a lot of it. “Since the time I started playing, I play with passion. Football is my love,” said Pranoy, who also plays for Pailan Arrows in the I-league.<p>Pranoy, unsurprisingly, was acquainted with football since he was a four-year-old, and travels back in time to remember how his father spotted his desire to become a<a href="http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/family-gets-him-started-passion-keeps-him-there/961721/#" class="kLink" id="KonaLink1" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 255); cursor: pointer; font-family: inherit !important; border: 0px none transparent !important; background-image: none !important; background-color: transparent !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; display: inline !important; top: 0px; right: 0px; bottom: 0px; left: 0px; outline: none; position: static; font-size: inherit !important; "><font color="#0000ff" style="font-size: inherit !important; font-family: inherit !important; position: static; "><span class="kLink" style="border-top-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-left-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: rgb(0, 0, 255); padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; background-image: none; background-color: transparent; width: auto !important; float: none !important; display: inline !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; position: static; ">football </span><span class="kLink" style="border-top-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-left-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: rgb(0, 0, 255); padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; background-image: none; background-color: transparent; width: auto !important; float: none !important; display: inline !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; position: static; ">player</span></font></a> early, and encouraged him as a youngster. Pranoy started under his father and remained under his supervision for a considerable period before graduating to the famous Mohun Bagan academy. The early stint with his father saw him playing second division league, which he admits helped him realise better his footballing skill.</p><p>“The only thing I remember my father telling me was that I need to put one hundred per cent into the game. I take pride in playing football and over the years, I have reaped rewards for that. Everyone appreciates my effort and the passion with which I take on the field. Sometimes people ask me why I am so passionate about it and I tell them that I want to take my country ahead. To make that possible, dedication and enthusiasm should go hand in hand,” Pranoy explained after the end of AIFF's training session at the Ambedkar stadium.</p><p>Eventually, once he established himself at the Mohun Bagan academy in Kolkata, Pranoy's next aim was to get through the Tata Football Academy in Jamshedpur and from there into the India's big league. Year 2009 saw him fulfilling his desire to be a part of India's kindergarten of football. And his talent also ensured that he was in the India U-19 squad that toured Iraq. At only 19, as he passed out from the TFA 2012 batch, and Pailan Arrows were waiting for him with a contract. “I would say TFA, not only for me but for all footballers is a step ahead. Their attitude in developing footballers is at a different level altogether. The effort put in those four years at the TFA has proved to be the launch pad,” he adds.</p><p>But when the moment finally arrived, and he was on the verge on breaking into the Pailan Arrows squad for the I-league, a hamstring injury marred his progress. Pranoy had to endure four months of hardship, sitting on the bench and seeing his fellow players plying the trade. “It was difficult to sit out and see others playing. But I wanted to be safe and nursed my injury properly. It was only during the ending stages that I played three matches in the Arrows campaign. Thankfully, I am a lot fitter now and still keep strengthening my muscles,” Pranoy exclaimed.</p></font><p style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11px; text-align: justify; background-color: rgb(221, 232, 240); "><font style="font-size: 12px; ">Since he is aware that fitness is the mantra for a long career, Pranoy, in an effort to improve his fitness, appreciates the style of AIFF's Aussie coach Arthur Papas. “His training methods are very effective. He makes us do the drills with football which also helps in improving skill with physical standards. He helps us improve the thinking process which I think is very vital for a footballer,” he said.</font></p></div>
