The Bengal state senior men’s team scored a vital 2-0 win over neighbours Odisha in the 71st Santosh Trophy – East Zone qualifiers campaign in Bokaro, Jharkhand to qualify for the final round.
The game was decided late with Bengal scoring two quick goals against Odisha. First Jiten Murmu gave Bengal a 77th minute lead and then Monotosh Chakaladar sealed the Bengal win with the second goal only three minutes later.
Earlier Bengal had beaten Chhattisgarh 2-1, while Odisha had trashed Chhattisgarh 5-1 to set up a group finale between the two powerhouses of the East Zone.
Kerala Santhosh trophy matches are being held in Kozhikode. Players are unhappy about the timing. They prefer 7:00 pm same as ISL. It will bring more crowd after office. Entry will be free. Organisers say they are unable to pay for floodlight generator charges which comes about 3.5 lakhs per day
Mumbai (WIFA) and Bengaluru have their own stadiums. Surprisingly IFA dont own their stadium which they should have done long time ago. Stadiums are owned mostly by State Governments courtesy of National Games. For some Baba or some IPL type event, somehow State Governments will waive the charges of floodlights, police bandobast. But for actual sports events, organisers have to pay.
