I wasnt just talking about popularity. These guys might be physically weak but technically they are far better so they can still kill it here. Also in India there is no or little football culture so these types of signings could motivate teens to take up football as a career which is a problem here.
'no or little football infra' would sum it up better...the football culture is quite massive in some places, while it may be quite negligible in some other areas...not all technically better players could kill it here...Del Piero, Anelka, Mutu, Robert Pires did not set the stage on fire with their performances
I can give you best example of the situation ........ My own brother who is also into football more then cricket dont know anything about Indian football except Chetri. Every now and then I tell him about our current squad and their key attributes but he dont take much interest into it because he dont feel the connection with them which is due to the fact the Indian football team havent achieved much on international stage. Last week I told him that KBFC signed Barbatov and he was like woah thats a massive signing and started asking me question with interest. So I feel its very important to introduce people to Indian football but you cant do that directly. Singing like Barbatov and others are mainly to bring people to stadium and build a fan base around it. Honestly you can't expect people to flock to stadium to watch below average players .......... atleast 10 more years needed to build that mentality.
Floating population will come and go and they are major irritants.
frankly I don't like the idea of bringing people in with a big name. Once they are Frikkin embarrassed on the pitch these floating crowd will vanish.
this is where the core support comes in. The more the core the stronger the longevity of the club. PR are required and the guys handling the accounts and handle should be sane, knowledgeable.
Better to to spend money on a proper PR resources than players looking for the last paycheck I suppose.
