Foolish decision by Gift Raikhan to substitute Joachim in the dying minutes. He could have converted two chances which Neroca miffed at the dead end. It was as if they didnt want to win .
In a surprise development, the All India Football Federation (AIFF), on Friday, has decided to seek the opinion of the disciplinary committee after FC Goa filed an appeal saying the suspension of three of their red-carded footballers should be revoked before the Super Cup semi-final against East Bengal.
Three players each from FC Goa and Jamshedpur FC were shown red cards by referee R Venkatesh after a group of players were spotted fighting inside the tunnel while going for the half-time break of Thursday’s quarter-final tie.
“Yes, FC Goa have filed an appeal with the match commissioner, who has forwarded it to AIFF. The AIFF has sent it to the disciplinary committee, which should announce its verdict latest by Saturday,” a senior AIFF functionary told The Telegraph.
Another official said the primary reason behind the move is to allow FC Goa field their full-strength team against East Bengal. A senior officer of the marketing agents of the AIFF is also trying to influence the decision from behind the scenes.
“FC Goa have three players with red cards. Two of their players are on double yellow and would not be able to play. Worried with the situation, the Goan team are trying desperately to reverse the red-card decisions.“Under normal circumstances, such requests are always rejected,” the official claimed.
The referee sent off Subrata Paul, Haitian Kervens Belfort and Anas Edathodika of Jamshedpur FC, and FC Goa’s Brandon Fernandes and the Spanish duo Bruno Pinheiro and Sergio Marin.
Interestingly, the AIFF’s head of referees, Gautam Kar, said he had no knowledge of such a letter from FC Goa. “I have absolutely no idea of any such letter.”
FC Goa, in their letter, claimed that since the red-card offences by their players were committed outside the field of play while a few of the referee’s decisions were extremely doubtful and further infuriated the players, the suspensions should be withdrawn.
A source within the AIFF claimed it was yet another attempt by a section of the officials to influence the referees and favour the ISL franchises. “Revoking the red cards before the semi-finals of an important tournament is simply unheard of.
“If the disciplinary committee does so, it will set a dangerous precedent,” he said.
During the Quarter Final of Hero Super Cup 2017-18 between ‘Jamshedpur FC’ and ‘FC Goa’ played on April 12, 2018 at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar, the referee was required to expel members of both the participating teams. The matter was studied by the AIFF Disciplinary Committee and the operative part of the order is provided below:
Jamshedpur FC
Mr. Subrata Paul (Jersey 01– Jamshedpur FC)
Mr. Anas Edathodika (Jersey 15 – Jamshedpur FC)
Mr. Kervens Belfort (Jersey 9 – Jamshedpur FC)
Mr. Robert Andrew (Goalkeeping Coach – Jamshedpur FC)
The AIFF Disciplinary Committee has imposed sanctions upon each of the players, being a suspension of 2 (two) consecutive matches, over and in addition to the automatic suspensions of the subsequent match imposed under the AIFF Disciplinary Code, be it under Hero Super Cup or otherwise played under AIFF regulations, and during the suspension period, bans all of them from the dressing room/substitutes’ bench as well as the stadium.
In addition, Mr. Robert Andrew (Goalkeeping Coach – Jamshedpur FC) and Mr. Anas Edathodika (Jersey 20– Jamshedpur FC) are imposed with a fine of Rupees One Lakh each under the AIFF Disciplinary Code for trying to brutally assault an opponent player, and Mr. Anas Edathodika for willfully disregarding the ‘expulsion order’ and directs both of them to pay the respective fines within 7 (seven) days.
FC Goa
Mr. Bruno Filipe Tavares Pinheiro (Jersey 16 – FC Goa)
Mr. Sergio Juste Marin (Jersey 21 – FC Goa)
Mr. Brandon Fernandes (Jersey 10 – FC Goa)
Indian Super League side FC Goa is set to face I-League giant East Bengal in the semifinal of the Super Cup at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar tomorrow. But ahead of that, they are in huge trouble as only 8 players would be available to play for the side ahead of the much anticipated encounter. Five regular players, Pinheiro Bruno, Hugo Boumous, Sergio Marine, Brandon Fernandes and Pronay Halder are already out of contest due to card problem. Today FC Goa coach Derrick Pereira confirmed www.xtratime.in that, four other players and a total of 9 players are out of the team.”Manu Lanzarote, Naveen Kumar, Jonathan Cardozo and Sana Konsham all have injuries and they won’t be a part of the semifinal,” said Derick.
This will be the first time in Indian football that a team would go to the field with just 8 players, which is a major blow for the Goa based outfit.” There may be only 8 players on the field tomorrow. We had 14 players after 5 players were suspended for cards. Among them four are injured and we have currently 10 players in hand and among them two are goal-keepers. So you can understand the current position of our team. But what I can say that our 8 players will give their everything to win the match against a side like East Bengal,” said Derrick Pereira.
On the other hand, Khalid brigade did a full fledged practice ahead of the game today. Coach Khalid Jamil and TD Subhash Bhowmick concentrated on situation practice and beside that the players also worked hard on set pieces.
The Red & Gold coach is not taking FC Goa lightly despite they don’t have a lot of key players.” We have to be focused on our game like last two games. Goa is a very good side and it will be a tough match,” said coach Khalid Jamil.
On being asked about that 9 players will not be available for Goa side, Khalid replied,” This can happen to any side on any day; the main thing is who wins the game at the end. I know Derrick very well, he knows me as well. It will be a good game.”
Khalid further added that Dudu is absolutely fine ahead of the big semifinal and he is only thinking of the game.
East Bengal’s star defender Eduardo Ferriera heaped praise about their defence line ahead of the game.” We have just conceded 8 goals in our last 10 games, our team is the best and we are up for the challenge, said Eduardo.
