The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is likely to reschedule the I-League match between Real Kashmir and Minerva Punjab, which to be played in Srinagar on February 18, to New Delhi. Citing security concerns, the Minerva had refused to play the match in Srinagar, coming so soon after the Pulwama attack.
The replay is likely to be held on March 12. AIFF had rescheduled Real Kashmir’s home match against East Bengal to Delhi, which the Snow Leopards went on to lose 1-2. On February 15, three days before their match against Real, Minerva wrote to AIFF to either move the match outside of Srinagar or defer it owing to the attack on CRPF. AIFF rejected the request, saying the federation had the all-clear from the security agencies.
Minerva, though, chose not to travel to Srinagar and lodged a petition in the Delhi High Court, seeking relief in the matter. The club withdrew the petition after Justice Vibhu Bakhru told the club’s counsel to first wait for the outcome of the league committee’s meeting. The committee sent the matter to the executive committee but AIFF was unable to call the meeting in such a short time. So it was passed on to its emergency committee that includes president Praful Patel, five vice-presidents and secretary Kusal Das as an ex-officio member. Both Das and I-League CEO Sunando Dhar were unavailable for comments.
Minerva kashmir match should not have been replayed. Security clearance from government and police was there. For the EB match it wasn't there. I think AIFF is doing this so that none can say they've favoured EB
East Bengal vs Gokulam Kerala will be telecasted on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports Bangla . Chennai City vs Minerva will be on Star Sports 3 and Star Sports Tamil
