Food for thought for all clubs at SAFF level tonight about the dangers of selling yourselves at the prospect of short-term benefits.
I was looking forward to watching Eagles' exciting young players in the AFC Cup this year. Unfortunately, they hired your typical cookie-cutter Maldivian who thinks he needs to sign every single Maldives national team player who played their best football 10 years ago. Eagles went against their entire philosophy of refusing to sign big name players and got what they deserved.
Instead of watching players who make the bulk of the U-19 and U-23 national team, almost all of them who came through Club Eagles much praised youth system, we instead saw Ashadh Ali (34), Ali Ashfaq (35), Mohamed Arif (36), Ismail Easa (33), Ali Fasir (33), Akram Abdul Ghanee (33) and Mohamed Faisal (32) signed at the last minute and thrust into the squad.
Now they are stuck with a bunch of players on inflated wages and well past their prime. Club Eagles may be in serious turmoil now, but I hope they revert back to their roots because Maldivian football needs them.
What's the big deal? It is him because he is very passionate and focused on winning every game. If by now you can't recognize his voice then you haven't been following Indian football lol
