MATCH OF THE WEEK: Barak Flamingoz FC Vs Dimapur United FC

Third
placed Barak Flamingoz takes on second placed Dimapur United FC in a
high-octane match this weekend in Mokokchung. Both teams registered convincing
wins last week to keep the league leaders Naga Tornadoes on their toes. Home
team Barak Flamingoz came from behind twice to snatch all three points to break
Life Sports’ winning streak in a tight encounter last week. Dimapur United also
registered a win after their opponents Kohima Komets walked off the field and a
walk over was enforced against them to award Dimapur United two more goals
ending the match in a 3-0 victory for the Dimapur lads. The top three teams are
separated by a point each and the result of this match would affect the title
race immensely. Barak Flamingoz have been phenomenal in finding the net in
recent times and they also have the best defensive record allowing in only 6
goals in 13 outings. Dimapur United has the most wins in the league with 10
victories from 13 games, but this weekend they face a tough Barak team and
unlocking their defense will be vital for their forwards. In the first leg
Barak edged out Dimapur 0-1 in a tight game and the return fixture promises a
full-blown attempt to grab all three points from either team. This will be a
cracker of a game and Mokokchung will be buzzing with anticipation as these two
powerhouses lock horns to challenge the other contenders for the inaugural NPL
title.

FC Naga Tornadoes Vs Zonipang SA

On
Friday, table toppers FC Naga Tornadoes takes on fifth placed Zonipang SA in
Dimapur. The Red Alerts routed Dynamic FC 7-0 in a one-sided affair last
weekend in Dimapur. Zonipang managed to salvage a point after losing the lead
against rivals Sangpang FC in the much talked about Mokokchung derby. The Red
Alerts are still unbeaten in 13 games having won 9 and drawn 4, seated on top
of the table with 31 points. They have the best scoring record in the league
finding the net 34 times. The Sunshiners need to address their scoring
abilities and tighten their defense as they’ve scored just 10 times and have
been found wanting on 27 occasions.

New Market FC Vs Sangpang FC

New Market FC lost out narrowly last gameweek as Doyang FC
pocketed all 3 points. Sangpang FC took on Zonipang SA last weekend in
Mokokchung which saw them come from behind and snatch a point in a thrilling
derby. New Market are still without a victory, trailing at the bottom of the
table with a point and they will be fired up to register their first win of the
season when they take on The Fourth Element in their home-ground this Saturday.
Sangpang dropped down to 8th on the table with 13 points and a win
is necessary to boost up the team’s morale in order to showcase a fiery
competition in the remaining games.

Doyang FC Vs Kohima Komets FC

Doyang
FC registered another win last week against New Market FC to move up two slots
to sixth position on the table. Kohima Komets travelling away lost out to
Dimapur United 3-0 in the previous game. The Blue Assassins have won their last
two games and this is a welcome sign for the Wokha lads. Doyang FC would rely
heavily on their forward William(12) who has been phenomenal with his lung-busting
runs in the opposition’s area. Kohima Komets dropped down to 7th on
the table after last week’s loss, and share equal points with Doyang FC. The
lads from Kohima have a hard game after their custodian and a defender remain
suspended after being shown the Reds in the previous game.

Dynamic FC Vs Life
Sports FC

Dynamic FC comes into this game after a demoralizing loss
against FC Naga Tornadoes last weekend. Life Sports are on the similar page as
they failed to enforce the lead twice and losing out to Barak Flamingoz 2-4 in
their previous game. Dynamic FC lie 9th on the table with 11 points
and this is an important game for them as the Dimapur district champions would
like to make a point or two. On the other hand, The Red Warriors have to win this
game if they are to inch closer to give the table toppers a tight end to the
season.

2nd goal: At the restart of 2nd half, Athing(21) and Victor(7) exchanged

ball into the far post making the scoreline 2-0.

Zonipang SA
had a few chances to level the scores but their attempts on goal were
however either too tame for the Tornadoes keeper, or were off-target.
Tornadoes lacked the usual killer-instinct today and apart from some
super passes and runs from their captain Athing, and their midfield
conducter Victor, the game was patchy and lightly contested. Naga
Tornadoes still maintain the lead with 34 points and The Red Alerts
would be eagerly anticipating the outcome of their nearest rivals'
(Barak Flamingoz vs Dimapur United) game in Mokokchung tomorrow.
