Marcelo Leite Pereira, better known as Marcelinho, has lashed out at media houses in India linking him to a January transfer to Kolkata club East Bengal. The Delhi Dynamos man, in his statement, said, “I am not moving to East Bengal in January, I appreciate the contact from the fans, but I am focused at the final stage of the Indian Super League season.”
“Also, I don’t want to talk about my future at the moment. Reporters, please be honest with the passion of these fans” he continued.
Earlier this season, reports in local newspapers surfaced that Marcelinho will be making a move to East Bengal to play in the I- League, but the Brazilian is contracted to Anápolis Futebol Clube who ply their trade in the Serie C.
East Bengal have already been active in the transfer market, having signed Ivan Bukenya from Iranian side Arbil SC. But, they need more fire up front if they are to challenge for the I-League this season, as the likes of arch rivals Mohun Bagan and defending champions Bengaluru FC have strengthened heavily.
Marcelinho is the highest scorer in the Indian Super League so far this season, scoring nine goals and assisting a further five in thirteen appearances for the capital club. Predominantly played in the right wing by Gianluca Zambrotta, the striker has been a breath of fresh air.
Favourites to win the Most Valuable Player of the year award, his hattrick against FC Goa was a thing of beauty, especially the second goal which was taken from 40 yards out, and hit the bar as it went in.
The Delhi Dynamos face Kerala Blasters in the first leg of the semi-final on Sunday, 11th of December at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi.
And to think that even after this, one media house (Xtratime) reported today that Marcelinho and Gadze are very much in EB's reckoning this year (though 24 Ghanta completely rubbished the speculation). Grow up, Indian media, and'Please be honest with the passions of these fans'.
@thebeautifulgame ...There has been persistent problem in kolkata club whoever play better last season they call them potential signing for their club & spread as rumours.
Mate are you comparing EB to Arsenal. New talents would be way more happy to be linked to Arsenal but i clearly don't see same happening with EB. Moreover linking a player of Marcelinho's caliber to i league is not justified. Also i doubt that he will come to even ISL after this season.
For a guy playing in 3rd/4th tier in brazil at his peak , he seems to have a lot of inflated sense of self worth. EB is a big step up to anything he has ever played in till date..
Well Rafael coelho did played in 1st tier brazil football but still performed below Marcelinho. I feel like Marcelinho has a lot more to offer and EB wont match his ambitions.
P.s- I am not saying Rafael coelho is a bad player, he was just limited by his team.
