@thebeautifulgame I still feel EB don't have an investor ready. They are badly in need to join ISL. They are saying they will release the details post lock-down. Not really sure if they even have one investor reliably, barring multiple investor as per their claims.
Frankly speaking, nothing is sure...but I have a gut feeling that they have an investor or are in the final stages of talks with an investor/investors
You can say that I speak as an EB fan and you would not be completely wrong, but this time around there are certain reports with a fair degree of reliability which suggests that there is something in the pipeline (investor/participation in ISL).
3-4 come sponsors and one big money investors with club retaining 50% stake. That's what I know, but things could change because of this lockdown effect on economy.
Just to clarify on a few things from our side:- Over the last few hours or specifically over the last 1 or 2 days we’ve been seeing many news portals or news papers providing a particular update that “East Bengal Club has already picked up the bid paper for joining ISL and they will be submitting the same after lockdown”. Today we found some news portals providing an update that “The AIFF and FSDL are not wanting to increase the number of teams in ISL this season and therefore chances of East Bengal participanting in the elite league are absolutely bleak”.
We got in touch with our trusted sources and what we were told by them is that any such update provided by these news portals and news channels are absolutely baseless and no such development has been made by either of the two sides. The AIFF or the FSDL are yet to take a call on when to start the ISL or ileague this season after the pandemic situation ends. They are also keeping tabs on the condition of various countries and there might well arise a situation where many ISL clubs have to appoint Indian coaches to manage their squads as we believe there would surely be restrictions from the Govt. Of India regarding issuance of VISA to foreign coaches or players this year.
What we can advise to all our followers is we believe what we all want will definitely happen and what we can do now is pray together to come out of this pandemic situation as early as possible so that our officials can complete the formalities left. We once again request you all not to believe any news portals/channels providing any update regarding our participation in the ISL neither do you need to believe us but please wait for any official update provided only by the club. The club officials are trying their level best and we firmly believe that they will keep their promises.
Quess East Bengal FC have activated the 'Force Majeure' clause and told players that their contracts are being prematurely terminated. The cessation will be effective April 30. This also means #GoodbyeQuess#IndianFootball#Coronavirus#VirusImpact
The remaining matches of the 2019-20 I-League season were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic with East Bengal’s arch-rivals Mohun Bagan being confirmed as champions as they had already secured the title mathematically.
Despite objections from East Bengal over the cancellation of the remainder of the season and handing Mohun Bagan the title, the All India Federation decided to cancel the rest of the season as resuming it was not safe due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
It was earlier reported that most I-League clubs would hold back the salaries of the players and the staff for the months of April and May as no football would be played in those months.
Most I-League clubs had paid salaries to the players up to the months of March. Foreign players of several I-League and Second Division League teams are stuck in India due to the travel restrictions due to the coronavirus with the clubs baring their costs.
Mohun Bagan will merge with Indian Super League side ATK in June and will ply its trade in the ISL which is now the top division of Indian football.
East Bengal, who are set to be without a sponsor come April 30 after the end of their deal with Quess, are trying to follow their arch-rivals into the ISL but are sweating it out over a new sponsor that would enable them to pay the franchise fees required to gain entry into the ISL.
Left with no option, the players have now knocked the doors of the Football Players Association of India who have assured full support and referred the matter to the world body for players (FIFPro).
Confirming this, East Bengal's top Spanish winger Jaime Santos Colado said the entire team disagrees with the decision. "This is true, they have terminated our contracts citing COVID-19 pandemic (Force Majeure). The entire team disagrees with that decision, we hope to reach an agreement soon. We are working on that," the 24-year-old, who has two more years' contract left, told PTI.
Currently, several foreign players of East Bengal are stuck in India because of the lockdown. "We are trying to go home, but no club or embassy is helping us at the moment," a desperate Colado added.
Coming in support of the players, FPAI wrote on their Twitter handle: "No club can prematurely terminate contracts with players because of the pandemic. There has to be a mutual understanding and the player must agree to it. "We are in touch with all the players and will take up this issue on a priority basis with global stakeholders @FIFPro."
