in football , the camp time is not that big as it is in gilli-danda that the coach could put on his style on players in that time....it is always better to give him the choice of selection so that he could easily play the best xi according to him....
A selection committe comes very handy in kirket but it might not be a good idea for football. It doesnt require a team of people to scan out good players from the I-league. You, me and everyone knows who are the best performing players in the current league. So if the coach is sincere enough to follow the i-league and forget the names he has 'worked with' etc. he should choose the best players at each position.
But the other point you raised Sabir about being biased is valid partially. Appointing a team of selectors who would justify their selection to the TD might be a good thing to do. As you know we are not as bad as our NT fares. Its just that the best players do not get into NT. For example, Mehrajuddin Wadoo, the footballer who can run, cant turn, cant give 1 out of 2 passes correct has made a comeback while Arnab Mandal and Lalkamal have to watch them make a mess of it. Team selection is important and if the need be, we should have a committee.
I second you Somesh. The size of our country, lack of TV coverage makes it a difficult job for the coach. Fortunately this year most of the I-league match we can see in Ten Sports. But it might not be possible for a single person to see all matches. A selection committee can make the initial list of players who are to be called in camp. Coach and his team (assit coach, doc and physical trainer) can make the final list after seeing their performance and fitness level in the camp. Unfortunately, at present coaches (both Armando and Savio) prefers to go ahead with some pre-determined players though most of them are completely out of form.

india NT was up against a quality side <!-- s:handgestures-salute: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/handgestures/salute.gif" alt=":handgestures-salute:" title="Salute" /><!-- s:handgestures-salute: -->
zambia have been absolutely rocking in this years championship and a semis was defntly on cards given their performances in recent times...they might even go on to win the cup..we were really up against a good side..2-3 of those players are playing in AFCON..no regrets on loosing to them but only regret is that if we had played our best squad and also included sunil,jeje we wud have given them a much better fight
True... By playing such high quality opponents regularly will help the players to grow, even if we loose. But as said, if we would have provided better fight with current AFC challenge cup squad.
