According to a Palestinian guy, the quota for this year would be as follows

Japan 4 clubs
Qatar 4 clubs
South Korea 3.5 clubs
Saudi Arabia 3.5 clubs
Iran 3.5 clubs
UAE 3.5 clubs
Uzbekistan 3 clubs
China 2 clubs
Australia 2 clubs

    Well no offence my fellow mates but I-League will take atleast 5-6 more years to get a direct entry into ACL.That too if we do it seriously and fast.

    I have watched and followed many Asian Leagues and India is atleast 5-6 years behind even countries like Thailand,so forget the above ones.

    given the current form of salgaocar...i dont even see them qualifying in afc champions league either even if a spot for qualifier is given for us......

    That is the problem with Indian Clubs in Asia. When they win I-League we think and KNOW that the I-League Champions are good enough to make the Group Stage of the AFC Champions League but then after the offseason which involves players getting poached and sold that "champion club" is no longer good enough come AFC Champions League time.

    I thought over the summer Salgaocar could do it but then I saw how they were playing and I lost all hope for them.

    They should have gone all out and brought in big names to form a strong team which could enter the cash rich ACL and get the money back. But one thinks they do not have the money to start with

    They should. The owner of Salgaocar seems like a very rich and smart man but they just didn't spend. Also they would not spend much at all because there is no transfer fees. Just negotiate the contract then done.

    O Slots for I-League in ACL

    Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Executive Committee has confirmed the number of places participating Member Associations will have in the 2012 AFC Champions League.

    The Executive Committee based their decision on inspection reports by the AFC Special Mission Team and on the results of assessments from the AFC Professional Football Project carried out throughout 2011, which revealed only Japan, Qatar and Uzbekistan fully met the AFC Champions League criteria.

    The considerations of the Ad-Hoc Committee for Professional Football and the Competitions Committee regarding the allocation of places for the 2011 AFC Champions League and the proposals for future editions of the tournament were also taken into account by the Executive Committee.

    After intensive discussions during the Ex-co meeting at AFC House on Wednesday, the allocation for participating Member Associations has been decided as follows:



    West Zone - Direct Entrants

    Qatar 4

    Saudi Arabia 3

    UAE 3

    Uzbekistan 2

    Iran 2

    West Zone - Playoff Entrants

    Iran 2

    Saudi Arabia 1

    UAE 1

    Uzbekistan 1



    East Zone - Direct Entrants

    Japan 4

    Korea Republic 3

    China 3

    Australia 2

    Thailand 1

    Uzbekistan 1

    East Zone - Playoff Entrants

    Korea Republic 1

    China 1

    Australia 1

    Thailand 1

    Indonesia 1



    This allocation is only for the 2012 AFC Champions League and will be revised in November following the conclusion of the tournament. Any changes following the review will apply to the next two editions of the competition (2013 and 2014).

    Shit.... Thailand 1.5 and indonesia .5 spots is a bit of surprise for me. On the other hand 2.5 spots for australia? Skorea 3 spots!!!?
    qatar 4 spots is a foolish decision anyway. On the whole not happy with these selections

    What is surprising did you ever see those leagues ?? Thailand is professional and Indonesia has a good league but unfortunately suffering off late due to politics.

    Also I-League failing to meet criteria is huge set back I'm shocked that none of the fans are bothered at this failure nor the media interested. ???

    And here our AIFF playing fool with fans saying they are going to launch a professional league and make lot of improvements.So where are you AIFF you cannot escape this by playing SAFF Cup 2011 ball to divert attention.

    If Thailand and India were around the same ladder 3-4 years ago how come it is possible that Thailand have moved ahead and India is not even considered in SMT ???
