There are around 34-35 Lakh people around the world with OCI card.

Number of PIO / People of Indian Origin is about 3.5 crore.

only 10 % of People of India Origin were found eligible for OCI card.

OCI has stringent eligibility criteria, with proven ties to India.

One cant get OCI card just because somebody's great grandfather sat sail on some ship 150 years ago or you have Coomar / Swamy / Singh in the name.

Countries like Trinidad and Tobago, Fiji, Guyana, Mauritius do not have OCI status to 40% of their PIO population.

And OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) is just a lifelong visa, not any citizenship.

Even if govt says tomorrow that OCI cardholders are eligible for India passport, most of the so called PIO footballers would fail to get it.

Markanday is Punjabi Brahmin surname.

Some people with Sharma surname also use Markanday as their last name due to gotra.

He is a British National with indian origin

Apparently it's more of court order barring PIO's from playing than a govt one. 

With Kalyan Chaubey from ruling party being incharge of AIFF I think we can like 0.1% chance of having PIO play for us. It's still a distant dream which likely won't happen

Also it's not going to make massive difference to us. Yan Dhanda and Markanday are probably the best PIO out there and they are obviously a massive upgrade over what we have now but faar from making us compete at top level.
