According to All India Football Federation (AIFF) sources, the elite soccer school could come up by the end of 2012 in collaboration with France-based JMG Academy, whose officials were recently in the capital for a detailed presentation of their proposal.
“Though the federation officials are hugely impressed by JMG’s approach, money could be the only hitch in setting up the academy,” said a source.
According to sources, the academy may be developed at the Pailan complex, where the AIFF backed Indian Arrows team is going to be based for the next five years. “The proposal said they needed six grounds, two of them fitted with artificial turf, to start functioning. In that case, Pailan can be the appropriate place for the academy,” the official said.
What really took the AIFF by surprise is that unlike former national coach Bob Houghton, JMG said its focus will not be only on physical strength and height of the youngsters. Instead, the academy will concentrate on developing the skills and speed of the boys that would help them to mature into better footballers. It has even proposed part barefoot training for the training till the age of 16.
After a brilliant first year, where they won the GFA U-18 Second Division League and consequently gained promotion to the First Division, BFA tied up with Vasco Sports Club and Chowgule Group to take the academy to an even better position. “Under the new tie up, Chowgule provides BFA with the infrastructure like a world class gymnasium and an artificial turf for practice and even a physio while Vasco Sports Club provides the much needed cash injection to BFA that until this time was running entirely on Beto’s and Barreto’s generous pockets and a few contributions from magnanimous benefactors in Brazil,” said Maverick Vivian Martins, Manager Corporate Affairs and Communications, BFA.
In a short span of time, BFA has managed to take the entire state of Goa by storm. After starting off with U-16 and U-18 teams, the BFA now imparts training in five age group categories viz. U-12, U-14, U-16, U-18 and U-20. It is the only club in Goa and possibly in India that imparts training to so many age groups and starts at such a young age.

SESA is doing great job without making a lot of fuss about it
I recently met the technical director and a few players from their academy. They are all really happy with the way things are panning out for them. They have lots of funding so are doing extensive scouting in Goa and across the country. Planning to rope in some foreign coaches. Build training grounds across Goa. They've got a lot lined up with regards to kids.
They've even offered a kid I'd taken for selection for an international event in Goa, a contract with schooling et all. Brilliant set of people running the set-up.
