Morgan: “We conceded the same type of goals as we have done before" Wednesday, May 04 , 2011 Report Courtsey: Asian Football Confederation East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan took one positive from the game – his side's first-half performance. “But we played much too defensive in the second half,” said Morgan. “We conceded the same type of goals as we have done before; two goals in five minutes and that’s been the end of our team.” East Bengal have two points after five games and cannot advance but face a busy schedule of fixtures over the next fortnight. “We have five more games in 14 days, so this is what we have to live with,” he added. Chonburi boss Withaya Laohakul revealed a half-time roasting for his team was the driving force behind the 4-0 victory over East Bengal at Chonburi PE Stadium that saw the Thais join Persipura Jayapura in the last 16 of the AFC Cup. “Some of our players maybe like to hear some yelling to get them going, and I felt we had a poor performance in the first half, so I was trying to encourage them,” said Withaya. “Our side lacked balance because we had too many injured players, so it was difficult for us to build up our style. I knew we could win this game but I was expecting more from the players, and especially our defensive game was not at the standard that I expect.” Withaya, though, is keen to secure a home tie in the next stage by winning the group and also paid tribute to Kazuto Kushida, saying: “I think we have just found the best midfielder in Asia.”

On 11th May Dempo plays Al-Ansar in Pune while Nasaf meets Al-Tilal at home. If Nasaf beats Al-Tilal which is likely to happen & Dempo manages to defeat Al-Ansar then they will go thru to the round of 16.

Are u aware of the reasons they were defeated so badly? There were injuries to key players & the worst their 2nd choice goalie was not even able to stand properly due to vomitting. He was forced to play only after their 3rd choice goalie injured himself in the initial moments of the game. Mind you Kattimani their 1st choice goalie didnt make the trip due to injury. And Nasaf is the likely contender to be declared the champion club.

I do agree that not only Dempo but all the Indian clubs lack the quality(obvious reason is I-League).But I'm confident that, with Armando Colaco in charge of the Dempo, they will reach greater heights.

That 9-0 dubbing and all is because of stupid coach like Afonso in charge(Assistant) and also the problems Jose stated.Hopefully they'll come back strong. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Mauricio Afonso is not a stupid coach. He has achieved a lot for Indian football & specially for Goan football. He is very dedicated to football. One cant pass a judgement on this great Goan on one bad match.
