the Al Ansar players are acting disgracefully and are involved in fights and ransacking property. they have even pushed the ref and showed middle finger
Thanks for posting the pictures, or I was planning to do them. Ok, so to confirm, none of the Indian (Dempo) players were involved in the brawl or the destruction. They were too busy celebrating and doing their cool down on the ground when all this happened. Plus Armando made sure that the players stayed on the ground till all the fracas was sorted.
This all started in the match itself when the Al Ansar players had tiffs amongst themselves on the pitch. The captain was furious shouting expletives at the team for eevn losing the ball or on set pieces. Plus they were complaining about time wasting to the referee as Dempo was 2-0 up by then (and honestly did what any team would do to preserve lead). Ranti was hurt when the players wanted to continue the match towards the fag end of the game. Ramos (defender, Al Ansar) put the ball out in spirit of fair play. Captain, Nabil Baalbaki & player Mohamad Hammoud had a fight with Ramos at the field then itself saying he should have continued. This is when all the madness started.
After the match, the Al Ansar players & support staff charged at the officials stating they were wrongly done. They started abusing the referee and the Dempo players. Whilst the officials were escorted to the tunnel by the security, they were chased by the Al Ansar staff & bench showing middle finger et all. And then they even throw bottles in the crowd when the crowd jeered them.
By the time I reached the tunnel, the door was already broken. The Al Ansar players had fought amongst themselves (I think it must have been Ramos, Nabil & Hammoud). They had broken some glass and I think a chair inside (I saw this all strewn in the dressing room later). Also I think it was Mohamad Hammoud that was sitting out and having fought with Ramos and Nabil, had banged his head on the wall and sat on the couch crying before he was quickly shunted in by his coaching staff. The rest of the team was in at that time. Pictures of blood there for you to see. (I haven't taken pictures of blood strewn on floor though). I wasn't allowed to take pictures then. So I am still unsure of who the players were that were involved. After the match comissioner took pictures for his record, I took pictures.
The Dempo team meanwhile went straight to the dressing room. The Al Ansar team left the ground by then. That's when Beto & Clifford came out to enquire about what had happened. Since Dempo had rented the stadium, they will ask compensation for property loss from Al Ansar to pay WIFA. I'm sure this will get reported back to AFC cause the match comissoner has pictures as proof. (he took pictures in front of me).
Mark, Thanks for the description...this is shameful, I am glad that Dempo player were not involved...Time for Duhok now
Thanks Guys. Quite unprofessional behaviour from them. I am glad that Dempo players didnot join in. By the way how many away games did Dempo play? Correct me if I am wrong I think it is 1. If so then the away experience against Duhok will be quite daunting for the players.
Players Gave Their Lives For The Game Against Al-Ansar - Dempo SC Coach Armando Colaco
Playing in their usual fashion with attacking players running behind the defence, Dempo SC were rewarded for their efforts with goals from Beto and Ranti Martins in the first half. With ten minutes of the second period played, Mahesh Gawli was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Al-Ansar pulled one back in injury time but Dempo held on to secure a 2-1 win and thus progress into the pre-quarterfinal of the AFC Cup.
During the post-match conference, Dempo coach Armando Colaco expressed appreciation for his players saying, “We played our normal game and caught them unawares. Boys played 40 minutes without Mahesh (Gawli). Now, it’s not a joke to play almost half the game with ten men, so, they played well; they gave their lives for the game.”
“Beauty of our team is that any player can play in any position. Today Kalu, who plays in the midfield slotted in as a centre back and did exceptionally well. I am just proud of them.”
Speaking of the red card, Colaco said, “Yes, we were given a red card. About the next game, I am unsure if the red card is applicable, simply because it was a second yellow. So, there is a chance that we can still play as a full team but I will have to check the rules.”
In spite of an average second half performance wherein they were eager to protect their lead, Colaco feels that nothing must be taken away from the Dempo team who were deprived of rest.
“We often say, you must do this or you must do that, we only talk. It is also important to consider that the boys didn’t have sufficient rest. Indian teams don’t usually qualify for the knockout stages of an Asian competition, we did and we must give the players credit for that.”
It seemed a tough fixture for Dempo, who had lost 2-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the competition. Speaking of him inspiring the team, Colaco said, “Before the players were going out onto the field, I wrote in the dressing room – Please make it. They came back and wrote – Done! Now that is spirit. They played very well and the credit must go to them.”
He also complemented the team from Uzbekistan Nasaf team - who scored 13 goals and conceded none against Dempo in their two games - marking them as one of the favourites for the competition.
“Before the match against Nasaf, I thought we stood a chance but we all saw what happened in the game. They are a very good team and they play very good football. They may win the AFC Cup as well.”
Dempo FC travel to Dohuk FC in a one-legged away tie in Iraq. As they prepare for the pre-quarter final on 24th May 2011, Colaco and the Dempo players hope to play well and make a mark on the continental stage.
I urge Dempo SC to take out all their frustration of the EB loss on Duhok FC & make India proud by winning the match on 24th May.

http://www.yfrog.com/hs6xsgfj this is the picture of the official team sheet. If anyone knows more details feel free to add to this or if there is anything wrong, feel free to correct me.
It appears Dempo are going to play Duhok in Iraq. Significant home team advantage. One team's used to war, the other isn't!
