i was sitting in the vip seats just behind the camera.....
Nice that you could watch the match the live. Is there any particular reason why there was such a poor turnout... <!-- s:confusion-scratchheadyellow: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/confusion/scratchheadyellow.gif" alt=":confusion-scratchheadyellow:" title="Yellow Scratching Head" /><!-- s:confusion-scratchheadyellow: --> <!-- s:confusion-scratchheadyellow: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/confusion/scratchheadyellow.gif" alt=":confusion-scratchheadyellow:" title="Yellow Scratching Head" /><!-- s:confusion-scratchheadyellow: --> I am from Kochi, Kerala where football is very popular with the likes of IM Vijayan, Ancheri, NP Pradeep, Ajayan, Manju etc representing the country. I always looked upon Kolkota & Goa as 2 places where is football is more popular. think this happened....??? <!-- s:think: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eusa/think.gif" alt=":think:" title="Think" /><!-- s:think: --> <!-- s:think: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eusa/think.gif" alt=":think:" title="Think" /><!-- s:think: --> <!-- s:think: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eusa/think.gif" alt=":think:" title="Think" /><!-- s:think: -->
Main reason was that nobody even knew about the match because of no promotion. Secondly the ticket were only available from the stadium that too only after 2pm on matchday. These were the main reasons of such a low turnout....
if you ask about promotion......then was there any promotion of international matches held in delhi or guwahati??????or were the tickets available from 3-4 days earlier only????
accept the fact that kolkatta fans are interested to see their club team win in the derby rather than watch their national team play and win....
i still wonder just for a derby,which may be played at max 5-6 times in kolkatta....do they really need this big stadium of 120k capacity????....when they are sure that at any cost they are not gonna cross even half the capacity for whatever may be the match.....

I will tell you the main reason for low turnout. People in Kolkata do not love football. They love the opportunity to bully each other. The derby gives them good opportunity to do so with minimal cost. So they wont let that go. In India's international match or for that matter even Bengal's Santosh Trophy match, all the supporters are for one team, so you do not have anyone to bully at. Why go to stadium then?

No love-hate relationships. Its for everyone to see. This is not the 1st time. AFC U19 Championship 2006 was held in Kolkata. But even the crows refused to attend the match. Such a big event for which we are now desperately trying to qualify wen't unnoticed.

I can't remember when India NT last played in Kolkata.The last match which I can recall is Ind -Japan 2006 World Cup Qualifier match on 2004 which attracted around 1 lakh people.If bullying each other is the prime reason then Messi match would have gone unnoticed.Even oliver Kahn farewell match ,BM against MB match attracted good number of crowds.Match importance as well as opponent are also important factors.
