That is good stuff from them...and by this move they are just showing their interest for a move to siliguri.
hope the local govt understands that do the desirable moves

  • Is there a possibility of the move for the 2012-13 season or will they wait till 2013-14 (pending on the politicians decision). If they have to wait then fine because for the 2012-13 season they could have select CFL matches there (by select I mean the big matches against East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan etc) and get the fan base bigger and even renovate the stadium.

Would love them to stay in Kolkata for one year and maybe have 1 Final send off.

i would really like to see united sc move to siliguri......in kolkata it is very difficult to get a decent fan base......and its very disappointing to see empty stands despite their brand of good football.....but is there adequate infrastructure available in siliguri?....if yes then can any1 post pics of grounds in siliguri?
@somesh - i did the search from google, wiki and google earth (which was updated to 22 feb 2011) and found out that the stadium is decent...some sources say that kanchenjungha stadium holds about 40000 which i really doubt...it looks more like ambedkar stadium...maybe 25000...but that too is a big number in terms of fans....and siliguri is located on the foothills of himalayas....so that almost guarantees a cool and comfortable climate, less humidity....the matches if played here will be at a much more quicker pace and exciting to watch...and the fans there must be dying to see top level football....united sc should really make this move ....it will be really arrogant to wait for a SPECIAL INVITE from the local officials

Well technically it could hold up to 60,000 people as it is all clay. There are no seats at the stadium. It is like Salt Lake Stadium. If Salt Lake gets seats then it would only hold around 70,000 at most. Same with the Siliguri stadium.
