Everyone is saying BFC is a success. Fine but for how many seasons. I am extremely happy the way they have portrayed their intensions this season. But again my concern is its not a club that is owner, its a company that is owner of a club. When that happens, how long the club survives depends on one hand. 1 or franchise is fine. But when the whole league setup consists of such clubs, I believe it might go astray any time.
That is the reason why institutional clubs are important and AIFF should make sure there is a correct balance of the 2.
Just seeing 1 franchise success doesn't mean others will have the same success story. And as everyone pointed out we have Mumbai FC and Pune FC already.
Corporate/institutional clubs means all same -- franchise system should work fine until unless they don't disband team. teams require principal sponsor for staying long term and profit making. This affecting IPL tooo.. if you have noticed clubs with principal sponsor are making profit rest balance sheet is in negative. for ex RCB is having different sponsor from last season RC which was their own brand.... This will help the cause it will happen delayed in Indian football - Mumbai FC clinching contract from other will help Mumbai FC sustaining... to do that MFC should play and attack crowd like BFC. BFC might end up with diff sponsor for the next season who knows...
@souravindia, that is why AIFF should not just give license to a corporate entity for a random club. Instead, they should create city-based franchises and ask corporates to take over. If a corporate wants to exit, they clear the dues to AIFF and go. AIFF the looks for another corporate for the city. That way the city franchise lives on.
Under the present scenario, if JSW loses interest (god forbid) and folds, AIFF has to look as a spectator.
Moreover -- this can't be a rule -- but the owner should not be the main sponsor. The club should get a separate sponsor. This will bring financial clarity and discipline, and give an indication of the clubs success.
