@Deb_Ban If JSW folds, then they can always sell BFC and I am sure that there will be buyers.
Anyone remembers FC Kochi. It was also a city based club and successful in first few years. We are going gaga with crowd of 8000. FC Kochi got crowd of 80000.
You are right, that is the way it should be. But, Zee group are hardly interested in Mumbai FC, but neither are they selling it off. And they didn't try to sell FC Kochi as well (hell, even Nethaji FC found buyer, but not these!).
@gaffertape what about other teams? I seriously dont understand why dont they manage to get team and kit sponsors. Look at churchill brothers. They were champions still were not able to attract kit sponsors. Dont they make that extra effort? Following are the teams with no kit sponsors:- Churchill Salgaocar United S.C Sporting CG Mohamadden SC A chunk of them are goan clubs.
Churchill have nike salgaocar have addas sporting have 7 sports but they are not sponsors but manufacturers means clubs pay the manufacturer to get the goods so no logo on their kits.
Clubs like Dempo, Salgaocar etc are technically sponsored... Salgaocar FC is sponsored by VM Salgaocar group. ..who pay X amount to the Football club to have their company name on the jersey. It goes down as CSR / tax relief / ÷etc from company accounts...and shows "income" from sponsors for the football club
There is some difference between BFC as champions and SFC or CB as champions... When CB or sal won the title who cared other than us?? When BFC won, they had it covered by local media, international media too then then had this victory lap which was more like invitation for bengaluru locals to be part of the club in next season...
sponsors would see more hope in sponsoring BFC with increasing fan base and the reach the clubs is getting with asian competition up for grabs..
The thing is simple- all clubs run the the team for CSR or for passion but BFC people run it both as club as well as a business which is why sponsors too see a hope to be part of
Lol. Why so much ado about BFC's victory lap? How different was it when Salgaocar did the same throughout Vasco (their home base in Goa)? Or the innumerable times that Dempo did it? In any event, BFC can only be judged after their first 4 years - remember they didn't have to bother about relegation but crucially unlike Pailan Arrows could sign foreigners. No relegation + foreigners + relative autonomy to coaching staff + Metro with urban audience + NO PRIOR HISTORY to locality. All other clubs in the country have to contend with the last point and so are compelled to keep certain people (technical/administration). BFC luckily did not have this baggage and could deliver. Sigh - if only it were an ideal world across the country!! But after the 4 years honeymoon ends - then we have to see whether they choose to go the Mahindra/JCT way. After all, the "how am I going to make money" issue has still not been addressed in Delhi.
