@footydip, I do not believe EB/ MB are ethnically based, because there are no ethnic division within Bengali community. Bengal is ethnically homogeneous. In EB's case, we can say they they represent a population geographically distributed differently (hence, the dialect they speak), but displaced. And geographical representaion is fine with me.
MB used to represent the natives (yes, all of them). It is the national club by the way. Pre-NFL era, they had supporters in Bombay, Bangalore and Kerala also. Those support base waned in view of lack of responses from the club. That the dumb officials could not retain those supporters is their shortcoming.
Moreover, the Bangal-Ghoti fissure has eased over time, and I have seen EB wife of MB husband and vice versa. Can we see same for MSC? Can we see ANY non-Muslim fan of them? If not, are we not giving the same message to a Muslim football fan ('go support MSC, you have no business here') as well?
MSC is a divisor, MB/ EB are not. MSC blocks the ordinary Muslim supporter by keeping him segregated. That club should have been closed after independence.
All they need is to rename their club without hurting the sentiment of Muslim as well as the name should attract attention from other part of the community.
@sam, your Muslim friends supporting EB/ MB or ADK for that matter is perfectly normal ... a 'club' should be open to all ... can you say the reverse is also true (that is Hindu/ Christian friends supporting MSC)?
If not, can I say they are being kept quarantined in MSC? Do you prefer it that way?
Bengal is not ethnically homogeneous. Ground reality is different. It is true that ghoti bangal issue doesn't play major role but it is still for many a real division
