Getting a job outside of football gives us footballers a sense of security. We can’t play football our entire lives and careers are short. One moment, one bad injury and your daily bread is gone. For me, football provides my daily bread but once I retire, I will be left with no source of income. We also have families to look after and thanks to God, I have a job outside of football that will aid me once I have retired. Because of that, I can live each day without any tension and play with my heart out without any extra caution on the field," concluded Singh.

The youth team coaches from a number of I-League clubs and Sports Authority of India (SAI) centers are taking part in a five day long FIFA Youth Course being held at Gurgaon. Former India U-17 and U-20 coach Islam Akhmedov, who had played a big role in developing youngsters like Subrata Paul, Gouramangi Singh and Malswam Tluanga during his stint from 2000 to 2002, is the instructor for the course.
Though this five day course will not earn the participants any Asian Football Confederations (AFC) license, the course has garnered widespread interest from all over the country, with 24 coaches going through theoritical and practical lessons for five days. Most of the I-League outfits have sent their youth development head coaches in attendance for the course, with East Bengal and Sporting Clube de Goa being the only absentees.
"It's not about having licenses. It's about the constant upgradation of your knowledge and I think this is a brilliant opportunity on that front. I look forward to the next three days as well, and I will like to learn as much as possible," Gumpe Rime, a former India national team goalkeeper, who is the head of youth developments at Shillong Lajong, told Goal on the sidelines of the course.
