It was recommended by the AIFF’s technical director Robert Baan. This will be the first time in almost eight years that the AIFF would organise a camp to only monitor players’ fitness. It is now likely to be held at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala in the middle of July.

From there, the players can report to the preparatory camp in New Delhi for the Nehru Cup, scheduled from August 16-26. “Yes it’s true that holding the pre-season camp just ahead of the Nehru Cup preparations is cost effective and so we decided to postpone the camp,” said Kushal Das, the AIFF general secretary. Das also said the SAI complex in Bangalore would be unavailable for the Olympics.

However, an AIFF official, requesting anonymity given the sensitive nature of the issue, told HT that the camp was deferred because the federation wasn’t keen on spending twice on air travel in two months. Also, hotels would be more expensive in Bangalore than Patiala. It would cost the AIFF approximately R10 lakh to hold the camp in Bangalore.

On the flipside

The flipside is if players are found to have health issues, it would leave the AIFF with little time to identify replacements ahead of the tournament, in which India are defending champions. “That is exactly why we wanted to use the off-season for this health camp,” said the AIFF source.

Das denied that a fund crunch could affect the standard of participating countries in the Nehru Cup being held in the AIFF’s 75th year. “The Nehru Cup is a completely different aspect so funds are not a problem. We will try to bring in some good international teams but the concern is the weather in New Delhi. Nothing is confirmed yet but we are looking to invite five nations and one or two of them could be west Asian teams. That it coincides with Ramzan could make it difficult for them,” he said.

Source - HT

I am impressed by the recent initiatives by AIFF, alas federation being all at sea with respect to funds is holding them back drastically.

First time in many years I sincerely like to support AIFF whole heatedly. Recent, ideas of having probable selection more than couple of months ahead any major tournament is superb (AFC U22 Asia cup qual. probables in feb and now nehru cup probable this month). Also, the idea of having health camp to increase fitness level is good ( only lack of funds is holding back). Selection of good coaches, staff and preparatory camps, etc are also some major developments. The best part I liked first time it seems they know what they are doing and are confident about their goals.

All thanks to Baan!!!

  • I am still wondering why we are having the Nehru Cup... in August. Most players will report to pre-season and then straight away leave for 1-2 weeks and then come back right before the Federation Cup.

Cant wait to hear the clubs opinion on this.

  • Might as well not allow fans in the stadium. Really, first Kolkata and now Goa. The fans will throw things... is the discipline really that bad. I mean whenever I go to the Emirates there is always someone throwing things. Why should a few people ruin things for the rest.

State associations fume as AIFF fails to release funds

Quite a few state associations have expressed their displeasure after
All India Football Federation (AIFF) failed to release a promised
financial aid of Rs 50 lakh for developmental activities.

Some of the top officials from various state associations have a strong feeling that they are being ignored by the AIFF of late.

“An aid of Rs 50 lakh was announced for state associations some four
months ago, but not a single penny is being released by the AIFF till
now,” a top official of a state association told PTI on condition of
    anonymity.

“They have been ignoring the state associations which are the basis of
grassroots. The AIFF is more interested in expenses related to its own
office, its DA/TA an all. They are acting like an individual body and
have forgotten that it is the states that elect most of the office
bearers in the federation,” the official added.

They have also claimed that the state associations are not kept in the
loop as far as implementation of developmental projects and activities
    are concerned.

“The AIFF had inked a (Rs 700 crore, 15-year) deal with IMG-Reliance but
where are they utilising the money. The I-League is still to have a
    standing of its own.

“Also, as we all know, the BCCI had given AIFF a financial grant of Rs
25 lakh, but nobody knows where it has been utilised,” an official from
    another state association said.

According to another official, miscommunication between the parent body and states has been a major problem in recent times.

“There was a time when we were in the know of things - be it for hosting
a match or organising any other football-related event. But things seem
    to have changed now.

“There seems to be a lot of miscommunication happening at the moment,”
the official, who has been actively involved in organising quite a few
international matches in the past, said.

Source - Hindu
