For, he literally had nothing else. His father, who earned a mere 1000 rupees a month, found it difficult to provide him with three square meals a day. Electricity was a luxury that he could not afford in his small house in Howrah, Kolkata. So it was no wonder that the football equipment, when it arrived, had an element of divine intervention to it.</p></div><div><br></div><a href="http://www.indianexpress.com/news/upwardly-mobile/962938/">http://www.indiane</a><a href="http://www.indianexpress.com/news/upwardly-mobile/962938/"; style="font-size: 10pt; ">xpress.com/news/upwardly-mobile/962938/</a>

We already have enough Goan teams. No more. In fact we could do with 2 of them gone. 4 clubs in a small state playing in the top league of India (big-ass country) just makes no sense. Plus just because this club has a good organization does not mean they have the finances as well. I-League involves a lot of travel and soon to be high salaries and transfer fees (soon).</font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2"><br></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2">We are really turning into a league where you need to be professional in order to be in the league and have financial backing along with fan support. No longer does good management alone or history help and that can only be a good thing for Indian football going forward.</font></div>

<font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2">England is a small country and they have the support. I have seen Goan I-League games, you can generate the odd great crowd here and there but its not consistent. Maybe if SRK joins on to Dempo then that can change.</font><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2"><br></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2">Comparing India with England is not the best, let me put that the rest (Does that rhyme; RAPPER). Association football was invented in England over 100 years ago, the clubs have been around for over 100 years (well at least 80) and they can generate 15,000 people a game IN THE THIRD DIVISION. Plus the cost of travel is so much less. Arsenal can just take a train to most of there away games while Dempo needs a bloody plane for long distant matches around 10 matches a year going in and back (around 20 flights). That is a lot specially sense with the distance and other things to go with that. The players are also of amazing quality. The 2nd Division of England is equal to Major League Soccer in quality. I-League is equal to the Conference Premier (5th Division) maybe worse. Plus the metro population of London is 13,000,000 while the population of Goa is 1,000,000 (estimated for both) Also forget stadium's, you have your stadium that is great but still does not merit I-League. Some random Kerala team can have the Municipal Stadium... do they deserve to be in I-League yet.</font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2"><br></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2">I am not downing Goa but it would be best for those clubs in Goa to spend and focus more on state league and development on youth football than worrying about travel expenses, hotels, buses, high player contracts, and the soon to be transfer fees (hoping).</font></div>
  • The Delhi Soccer Association has been active though. They hold the Delhi Senior Division as well (should start next month; with reining champions Delhi United FC). Anyway I agree but at the same time we should be patient. Delhi's main problem is the risk of seeing if they can support domestic I-League. They can easily bring a crowd in for India matches but still suspect on I-League. Kerala has the support, mainly in Kozhikozide, all they need is a good financed team and they will be off an running. Nagpur proved to be quite the football-crazy place after last November. Hyderabad and Chennai are getting and the T20 Football will only get them better. J&K is showing football interest while Punjab is restarting with the new youth league there.<div><br></div><div>Yes we should focused on already proven area's but to say that the rest has no support and use that as a reason for more clubs in a small state is wrong.</div>

@usaindia- thnx for the info, i-league is lagging way behind in terms of no of league matches per team, media, sports infrastrucure and a lot of other things..... realistically we are still some 3-4 years away from AFC champions league  which is sad .... :-(<br>
