    JEREMY HAT-RICK SINKS LAXMI PRASAD

Goa Velha Sports Club stunned their opponents Tuff Laxmi Prasad with an impressive 3-1 victory in the Goa Pro League relegation round match played at Duler Stadium, here on Saturday.

Jeremy Menezes was Laxmi Prasad’s tormentor as he netted a brilliant hat-trick. Freiman Peixato found the net for Laxmi Prasad. With this win, Goa Velha climbed to the seventh spot with 13 points while Laxmi Prasad stay sixth with 14 points.

Laxmi Prasad made the brighter start and medio Peixoto could have opened the scoring 10 minutes into the match when he collected a loose ball inside the box but ballooned his effort wide of the target. Goa Velha started to grow in confidence as the match progressed and stunned their opponents to take the lead in the 15th minute. Nestor Dias sent in a low cross from the right flank and Jeremy although closely marked by Laxmi Prasad captain Remus Gomes managed to connect and send the ball into the nylons.

Barely two minutes after taking the lead, Alber Gonsalves could have extended the lead but his shot went narrowly wide after Manuel Crasto had put him through at the goal with a calculated pass over the Goa Velha backline.

Although they enjoyed a major share of possession, Laxmi Prasad found it hard to create goalscoring opportunities. But some brilliance from Freiman saw Laxmi Prasad on level terms minutes before the halftime break. Freiman played a short corner with Alvito Miranda and deceived goalkeeper Deitmar Fernandes, as instead of crossing he sent a curling effort into the far post nettings.

After resumption, Goa Velha continued to attack and Laxmi Prasad custodian Reagan Juliao was forced into making a spectacular save by Manuel Crasto, who fired a rasping shot from a distance. From the ensuing flag kick, Goa Velha restored their lead as Jeremy scored his brace with an opportunistic strike at the far post after Joy Gonsalves failed to make full connection from Nestor’s corner kick.

Laxmi Prasad were completely off their game and could have conceded their third goal when Jeremy passed to Alber, who found himself much space but missed the target with a poor attempt. Jeremy completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute with a stunning curling effort from the edge of the box to complete a memorable evening for himself.

Jeremy was adjudged Most Valuable Player and collected a cash award of Rs 2,500.

    CAVELOSSIM DOWN GOA VELHA

SCC Cavelossim edged past Goa Velha SC 1-0 in the Airtel Goa Pro-League relegation round match played at Duler Stadium here on Thursday. A first half strike from Wilton Gomes was enough to see Cavelossim secure all three points.
After this victory Cavelossim have 15 points while Goa Velha are on 13 points.

It was a dull day and a dull start to the match as both sides took time to find their footing and rhythm. But as the match progressed Cavelossim got the better of Goa Velha and kept their keeper busy throughout the match.

In the 12th minute Agnelo Colaco, who scored six in Cavelossim’s last fixture, tested Goa Velha custodian Dietmar Fernandes with a stiff grounder.
Goa Velha were looking out of sorts and were wasteful whenever they had possession.

However in the 34th minute U-20 Jovel Fernandes came close to opening the scoring for Goa Velha as his header sailed inches over the crossbar from Nestor Dias freekick.

It was the spark they required and Goa Velha burst into life and minute later Jeremy Menezes forced opposition keeper Jason D’mello into action with a power-packed header from Nestor’s flag kick.

At the other end, Marcus Fernandes of Cavelossim created space for himself and fired a thunderous effort but Dietmar pushed the goal-bound effort for a corner kick. After a goalless first half both sides pushed forward in search for the opener. And it was Cavelossim that looked the more likely side to do so. Wilton Gomes created space for himself and unleashed a pile driver from over 30 yards out but Dietmar was equal to it and produced a spectacular diving save to deny him.

Goa Velha completely faded away as the game went on and Cavelossim deservedly took the lead in the 63rd minute. Wilton who was denied minutes earlier tried his luck again after receiving a short corner from Prestley Colaco and on this occasion managed to put the ball past Dietmar who was blocked by a host of players.

Goa Velha never looked like scoring as their attack went but they nearly shocked Cavelossim in the dying minutes when substitute Royston Pereira found Nestor Dias with a pin-point cross to the far post but Jason got down low to make the save and keep his side in the lead.

Agnelo Baretto almost nicked a goal in the death following a goal mouth melee but he ballooned his effort over the cross bar from close range.

Wilton Gomes was adjudged the Most Valuable Player.

BLAKE NETS HAT-RICK AS GOA VELHA WIN

Goa Velha SC registered a comfortable 4-2 victory over relegated side Margao SC in the Airtel Goa Pro-League relegation round match played at the Duler Stadium here on Monday.

A splendid hat-trick from Blake Haldankar and a goal from Nestor Dias saw Goa Velha collect maximum points while Damodar Harijan and Wilfred Gomes were on the score sheet for Margao.

After this victory Goa Velha have 16 points while Margao’s nightmare continues as they are yet to register a single point.

Goa Velha were favourites coming into the match and took an immediate lead in the very 4th minute. Medio Sidroy Alfonso released Nestor Dias on the right flank and he in turn fired in a low cross to Blake Haldankar who had an easy tap in.

Goa Velha enjoyed a major share of ball possession while Margao were struggling to find their footing. But although they had possession Goa Velha hardly created any clear cut chances after going ahead and their best opportunity to extend the lead fell to defender Agnelo Barreto but he delayed his shot and gave the defender time to make a timely tackle.

As the match went on Margao started to get better and had few decent spells of possession. And with the momentum on their side they restored parity in the 39th minute. Sidroy who was instrumental in Goa Velha’s goal came in with a clumsy tackle on Damodar Harijan. And from the ensuing free kick taken by Vijal Rego it was Damodar who leapt high and headed the ball into the Nylons.

Margao should have taken the lead ahead minutes after getting the equaliser. Wilfred Gomes put Frehauf Fernandes through on goal with an incisive pass and he had only the keeper to beat but his poor effort was easily thwarted by Goa Velha custodian Soma Korgaokar.

Goa Velha started the second half in similar fashion as they had done in the first half and took back the lead in the five minutes after resumption. Sidroy was once again the architect as he found Nestor with an intelligent pass over the Margao defence and the latter fired a stiff grounder into the bottom corner of the far post to make it 2-1.

In the 75th minute Blake extended his side’s lead from close range when he headed home a rebound after Alber Gonsalves header came back off the crossbar.

Goa Velha seemed to be cruising to a comfortable victory but Wilfred Gomes reduced the deficit with a neat finish and brought Margao back into the match.

But Blake put the victory beyond doubt when he sent a powerful header into the roof of the net and completed a brilliant hat-trick.

The Most Valuable Player and cash award of Rs 2,500 was given to Blake Haldankar.

Freiman Peixoto stepped up and converted from the spot but the goal was disallowed due to intrusion. The penalty was retaken and this time Jason came up with a diving save to deny Freiman.

However, four minutes later, Laxmi Prasad broke the deadlock when midfielder Xamarao unleashed a venomous long ranger that took an uneven bounce in front of Jason and found the back of the nylons.

Cavelossim were a subdued lot but their best chance to equalize came before the break. Inacio Colaco’s dangerous flag-kick was headed by Agnelo D’Souza but Freiman came up with a goalline clearance.

Freiman was a livewire for Laxmi Prasad in the second session with daunting runs.
In the 63rd minute, Freiman made a swift run forward in the danger zone but his rasping effort was blocked by Jason. However, the ball rebounded to Steven, who finished with a deft grounder.
