I believe it was a combination of both. Our coaches failed to pass on their knowledge which in turn resulted in poorer standard of players each generation. While other nations improved even if it was by a miniscule percentage.
I agree and disagree. I was not here during the NFL days so I can't speak on that but I can say that the I-League has shown that the Indian player standards have stayed the same and somewhat got better. Other nations simply just started to get better. Many started to look for foreign-born expats (Afghanistan) and others just got better through financial help (Thailand).
Although, I will say this... I feel that the difference between now and before is based on natural leaders. I look at the older India national teams and while they were not good quality wise you just got a sense that most of those players were leaders of men... humble players... this batch of Indian players I don't see that with other than Sunil Chhetri.
BTW, for those who want to see the new squad via wikipedia, I have it updated on the new page I am creating which will basically be a draft for the actual India national team page. Not close to being done yet and I was hoping to have it done for the qualifiers but now I aim to have it before the summer.
Gurpreet's height in wikipedia is 197 cms but in his club's profile it is 194 cms, what is his actual height, he is quite taller than Mande who is 193 cms. So what should be in wikipedia 194 or 197 (BTW he looks a inch taller than Al Habsi who is 197 cms). Please suggest @Arsenalfan
