I think 'Chennaian' is English and 'Chennaiyin' is Tamil word. Both mean 'of Chennai'. Though the Tamil word IS a tongue twister for us non-Tamils, But they had to address their constituency ('local connect').
Few days earlier I read a news item siting a research which said 'Chennai' itself is a Telugu word whereas 'Madras' (<Madrasapatnam) is the original Tamil name for the area of the city. Later people took 'Madras' as a colonial word as Bombay, Delhi and Calcutta.
The name and logo looks like some Dark Water Horror ride in Amusement park. Hard to see people buying Merchandise of this club. Color Yellow to cash on IPL Chennai Team popularity. Very cheap effort in naming and designing the logo.

High advertisement rate in the Indian Super League is keeping brands away from the cash-rich tournament.
