@reddevil87 What recently retired guys? Majority of them are actually done playing and the older ones looking for a last pay day can probably make more in the states or the Middle East or China or Australia or Japan.

I like Atletico de Kolkata but this is to be expected with a team like Atletico Madrid in charge, they have an ambition to spread there brand like Manchester City have done. The others don't have that.

What I want to see now is a connection with fans. I find it hard to believe one can maintain such a bond with the fans when only in operation for such a short period of time. You don't hear people talking about there Chennai Super Kings or Mumbai Indians in the same light they speak of Manchester United or Real Madrid.

@namewtheld IMG-R had a very clear way of thinking when there plans for ISL didn't materialise 2 years ago and faced resistance from IFPCA ( by the way , where are they now  ;))      ....) if we have all the best players & all the venues then they will have to comply
Phase 1 was Bhaichung's attempt to get all the National team players to sign up..little did they all realise that Wim wasn't going to stick with Houghton era footballers like Mangi, Abhishek Yadav , Renedy type players anyways...and despite having all these stars & the Pailan boys they couldn't go ahead.
Initial plan was for IMG-R to run the entire league and own all teams and only later auction of each franchise.

Phase 2 was then to acquire all the stadia , as none of the I-League clubs have their own stadium, all IMG-R had to do was make deals with State Sports Federations or SAI etc. in the relevant states, some promise of revamping these dilapidated stadiums and they managed to secure exclusivity in some of them.

Chennai was one such stadium, they have done something similar in Guwahati by taking the modern stadium and bypassing Assam FA who sit inside the JLN stadium , much to the annoyance of Ankur Dutta.

For those who know how Reliance industries operates...this is very much there method of doing business and pushing out competitors,
Now that all of Mumbai FC and Kolkata players will be going into the pool, they will make a percentage off the players earnings.
They have taken a MLS model and raped it with the BCCI mindset and come up with the bastard child that is ISL.
Their main aim is to recoup the 700Cr investment they made into Indian football... they have recouped more since "selling" the 8 franchise than in the past 8 years.
Their dreams of valuations of the franchises reaching 100 Crores won't materialise but each season they will make money off the marquee coaches, players and every participant.
The revenue share model of the TV is to be split 80-20% in favour of Clubs ...BUT only after costs...a lot of this will be recycled back as franchise / participation fees.

From a pure investment point of view , it makes little sense, which is why it has only attracted the likes that it has

Brilliant post by gaffer again, I too think the same way. IMG could have gone ahead and blocked all major stadiums to ensure they are booked for the ISL whether or not it happens.

CCFC just became the first club to be blocked by this route there by IMG REL ensure they keep the best possible stadiums for the entire season. Since the ISL start dates are very fluid, they could have blocked it beyond December itself thereby hampering any new club who want to come to the I-league.

Btw not that am interested, But where are the other franchises? Seem Kolkata is the only one who came to the party. Will look dumb if ISL is again postponed as only 3-4 franchises are ready.

It looks like Reliance plan is to make I-League a second division league with no TV telecast. This year they removed clubs like Churchill Brothers, Mohammedan Sporting. Next year there target will be PFC, BFC. Then what??? MB, EB????
