Last year it was ETV News Bangla, I think, who had telecast the matches. Expect 1) Lots of disrupted/abandoned matches due to rain, poor field conditions, controversial refereeing decisions, referees being manhandled etc 2) Continuous changes of schedules by the IFA and the League stretching till eternity
Also expect a separate thread on the tournament from @thebeautifulgame before it takes place
Somtochukwu and striker Manandeep Singh ensured victory.
KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club beat fellow Calcutta Football League Premier Division outfit Rainbow Athletic Club 2-1 in their first pre-season game played at the Kalyani Stadium on Friday. It was Rainbow AC who had taken the lead against the run of the play. However, Mohammedan Sporting Club players fought back quite well and a goal each from Nigerian defender Richard Agwu Somtochukwu and striker Manandeep Singh ensured victory.
Mohammedan Sporting Club coach Biswajit Bhattacharya went in with the conventional 4-4-2 formation as the team looked in control of the proceedings right from the start as they looked to use the flanks to stretch the game and build the attacking moves. Mohammedan Sporting Club had two good opportunities in the opening 20 minutes but the upfront players failed to make the most of the chances that came their way.
And, quite suddenly, Rainbow AC broke the deadlock, taking advantage of a defensive error.
Mohammedan Sporting Club players showed their attacking instinct as they searched for the equaliser but that remained elusive in the first session of play as the teams went into the break with the scoreline reading 1-0 in favour of Rainbow AC.
Biswajit Bhattacharya's men levelled matters in the second session when defender Richard Agwu Somtochukwu headed home off a corner. Manandeep then pulled off a great effort as made a darting run before finding the back of the net with a fine strike to ensure victory for his side.
Meanwhile, former India international striker Dipendu Biswas joined Mohammedan Sporting Club's pre-season training session on Friday.
