NEW DELHI: To encourage sports in India, the government will set up a National Sports Academy, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Thursday.
"The government will set up National Sports Academy for different sports in different parts of India," he said while presenting the national budget in the Lok Sabha.
They already exist with SAI centers around the country and National Institute of Sports, Patiala. Need of the hour is to expand the capacity and modernise it.
Typical headline for targetting people who have no connection with indian football. Content very generic as well.
first we have lot to learn from Uzbekistan, Japan, and many other countries which have comparable or even less facilities yet go to the final rounds of qualifying campaign or give a good account of themselves.
Here's Harsha Bhogle talking about the rise of cricket from early days of being a sports of kings and princes who wanted to have good terms with the British rulers. He then talks about the rise of T20 and how India made most of its popularity. Maybe football administrators can take some lessons, not that we can implement the same, as many conditions for cricket can never be fulfilled for football. Football has much much more competition, and we can't be 'accidental' champions as Harsha Bhogle says about cricket.
He also mentions that rise of cricket was at the expense of other sports. This is coming from someone who is closely linked with cricket for decades now.
