Few years back, I met the legendary Balaram (of the trinity PK-Chuni-Balaram) at Uttarpara, his home in the suburban Kolkata. Bitter and reclusive, he seemed to be not bothered at the state of the game now, a state which seems inevitable to him. And such humility. I was ecstatic, as I could not believe I was talking to HIM only. He mumbled, presumably embarrassed, " it's ok, I just played football [like a lot of kids] during my youth, I am past that life; I am an ordinary man now."
Here is a rare take on Indian football from his viewpoint:
After reading the above article I feel a sense of anger boiling inside me. Following things should be done by the concerned authorities:
1. Our PM Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Sarbanand Sonowal should read the above mentioned article and take necessary action with the concerned authorities.
2. Those officials who are responsible for the sad state of Indian football should be arrested and shot at point blank range (for the sake of Indian football). People in India should be consulted whether they approve this type of execution against corrupt football officials in India.
3. CBI and Enforcement Directorate should be asked to investigate whether these corrupt officials managing Indian football have channeled taxpayers money to Swiss bank accounts.
4. All national teams (whether youth or senior) should appoint well experienced coaches who have UEFA-A or AFC-A licenses. World Cup winning coaches are an added advantage such as Marcello Lippi working for a Chinese Club.
5. Foreign Institutional Investors should be encouraged to invest in world-class football infrastructure in India.
6. Big Corporate and Public Sector companies should encourage their employees to spend their time during some I-league matches. This will help increase the revenue of I-league clubs who are struggling financially such as United SC.
I will not comment on points #1 - 4. These are too ridiculous.
#5: What will the FIIs get in return? mileage -- nil, money -- nil; then why should they invest?
#6: Will it not reduce the productivity of the Corporates/ PSUs themselves? Most of the PSUs are already on life support (on taxpayers' money). And Naren Mody has better agenda than to prop up revenues for I-league clubs. The economy, for starter.
Grow up, @cybertron, anger is fine, but before commenting on a public forum, please brush up your understandings of the world. Till then please refrain from posting silly comments.
@cybertron point # 2 is legendary boss! Even after all this month, you still retained the ability to surprise me!
