India needs more to make her neighbours dependent in her. Nepal and Bhutan are already heavily dependent on us. Govt. needs to bring Myanmar, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka closer to us, cause if we wont, China will and it is not good for us. China has already captured Pakistan and courting Sri Lanka and Nepal. If we dont make our moves right, China will make us pay for it.
To get back to the linguistic states issue, I think multi-ethnic states like Telengana, Oudh, Vidarbha, Chota Nagpur or Mysore would have prevented the the hegemonic attitudes of large language states like UP, Bihar.
In a country already divided million times socially, the last thing we needed was another instrument for division: language.
100 years ago or say at the turn of 20th century, our whole subcontinent had just 8 Provinces.
Burma Bengal Madras Bombay United Provinces (Present Day UP) CP & Berar (Madhya Pradesh plus Vidarbha) Punjab Assam
Then there were princely states also like Hyderabad, Travancore. But all these provinces/states were multi-ethnic and multi-lingual with no specific group dominating others. Myanmar, Bangladesh, All states of India, Pakistan came out of these 8 provinces only. Hats off to Indian Civil Service of that time that how they managed administration.
Great Point made by @Deb_Ban as if caste and religion fights were not enough, a new paradigm of language fights was introduced.
China has circled India by building navel bases in Burma, Pakistan, sri Lanka, and Djibouti. India should now build ballistic missile bases in Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia to have any chance of 2nd strike capability and deterrence.
China is in a different league. 19th century belonged to Great Britain, 20th century belonged to USA and 21st to China - thats what many people think. We should stop thinking about fighting or jealous with them. Instead make our own mark economically in the world.
@munna219777 we are not jealous of China we are worried about safety of our people. China can invade India by using its ports and amphibious landing ships.
