Kerala progressed to the semifinals ofthe 36th Sub Junior National Football Championship for Coca Cola Cup after carving out a hard-fought 3-2 win over Mizoram in an exciting match played at Cuncolim grounds on Thursday.
Goa, Jharkhand and Chandigarh are the other teams who have already made it to the last 4 stage.
While Goa topped Group A with 9 points, Jharkhand topped Group B with 12 points. In the semifinals, Goa will clash with second-placed Kerala at Trinity grounds, Benaulim while Jharkhand will take on Chandigarh at Cuncolim grounds.
In another match held at Trinity grounds, Benaulim Maharashtra thrashed Haryana 8-1. Maharashtra’s Mohamand Aniket scored a hat-trick and Amran Kirnapure scored a brace. Krish Adhikari, Kamran Ansari and Aryan Yogpuri scored the other goals. Prabhat pulled one goal back for Haryana.
Host Goa are on a roll as they thrashed Kerala 4-1 to romp into the final of the 36th National sub-junior Coca Cola football championship for the under-15 Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy, at Holy Trinity ground, Benaulim, on Saturday.
Host Goa will meet Jharkhand in the final on January 27 at the same venue.
“We are delighted with this win and all praise goes to the boys for their excellent performance,” said coach Remy.
“We are looking forward to the final and I am really happy with the boys responded to the challenge,” Colaco added.
“I congratulate Goa on the win,” said Kerala coach Purushothaman.
In another semi-final, at Government School play ground, Cuncolim, Jharkhand blanked Chandigarh 2-0. The final is on Tuesday.
