The deal looks possible if he doesn't decide for MLS instead..But MLS transfer window has closed so it's possible..Not sure whether he is a free agent or has terminated his contract..Free agents can be signed after window closure i guess.. Ofcourse we have the advantage of not having any transfer window at all!!
FC Pune City have secured the signature of influential Argentine player Fernando Cavenaghi for the 2nd edition of the Indian Super League, FeverPitch.in can confirm.
The River Plate striker inspired the Argentine club to Copa Libertadores title earlier this month. At 31, he is at the peak of his career and has amassed 11 goals in 18 appearances for River Plate in 2015 alone.
With Pune City already having a very balanced team, the addition of Fernando is another show of intent and seriousness on the part of the management.
A product of the River Plate youth set up, Cavenaghi played for the team for four seasons before moving to Spartak Moscow. He scored 7 goals in 26 appearance and helped the Russian club win a Champions League place.
There after, he had some loan spells in club like Mallorca, Sporting Clube Internacional before returning to his childhood club where he once again amassed 19 goals in 37 matches. The success took him to Europe with Villarreal, then to Mexico and ultimately to River Plate again in 2014.
He also represented Argentina on 4 occasions and was a part of the Argentina Under-20 squad that finished fourth in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship.
Whatever people say, I just love the Pune signings. Last year and this year as well. Hope they do well this year and get a full stadium for all their efforts.
Pune had the best foreigners last year also except the Italians coach brought..This year is also brilliant..They probably know that Mutu would be another Trezeguet and so has brought along two top South American strikers.. I'm just sad they didn't retain Kostas..He's my favorite player from last season
FC Pune city has made a good team. Now it upto people of Pune whether they will support their their teams from Stadium or not.Last year we saw vacant stadium.
