Fernando Cavenaghi was in talks with Pune but could not sign as Pune didn't meet his salary demands. they were also in talks with resent EPL player who also rejected because of wedge demand was not meet by FCPC (they are low on budget after signing big names on big money and the salary cap restricted them from signing Fernando Cavenaghi and the EPL player)
FC Pune City strengthened their defensive line by signing 34-year old Argentine defender Diego Colotto.
The centreback spent the last 3 seasons playing for La Liga club RCD Espanyol, where he’d earned a leadership role in the dressing room and was looked at as an example for the younger players.
He played 24 games last season in the La Liga, of which he started 23.
FC Pune City fought off stiff competition from Spanish clubs Córdoba CF, RCD Mallorca, Real Zaragoza and some Mexican clubs to sign him.
Diego Colotto is a very good signing by Pune..They were after Cristian Zaccardo earlier for the same position.But this is a much better signing than him..While Zaccardo is a WC Winner and is at AC Milan, it's important that someone at the age of 34 plays reguraly..While the Italian has played only 30 times in the last 3 seasons, Colotto has played 81 matches in his last 3 seasons in La Liga nad starting all except 2 matches..
Considered a natural leader on and off the field he is also a goal scoring defender with 8 goals in his 3 seasons at Espanyol
