A
lot has been made of the unavailability of players for the National team camp,
but the mainstream media and the AIFF media clowns aren’t even revealing half
the story.
The
Indian Express had run this article, but factually misled readers:
FC
Goa players are paid employees of Dempo FC on loan to the ISL franchise, their
1st responsibility id to their employers. Hence, if they are
injured, they must seek the immediate treatment in order to return to
playing/training as soon as possible.
Raveling
half way across the country via ill prepared itineraries is hardly the best
post injury remedy!
Speaking
of ill-prepared team manager:
Sietyasen
had finished his last game for NEUFC, and as soon as they were eliminated from
the play-off spot in the table, he flew home to Manipur, only to be told to
report to a CAMP in Kochi!
He
landed in Imphal, only to have to be told my team manager Shanmugan Venkatesh ,
that he would be sent his ticket to Kerela the travel the next day. He was
booked on the most convoluted schedule: Imphal to Kolkata, Kolkata to Delhi
long delay at airport / Delhi to Mumbai 5 hour wait at the airport, then a
flight to Kochi. The poor boy travelled more than 24hrs door to door.
Normal
footballing protocol is to have a player do a recovery session (hydrotherapy)
following a long flight. Needless to say Danny Deagan is unaware of such basics
, and trained Seityasen the next day , thus injuring the player.
Cavin
Lobo was either injured due to the 3-a-day training regime that Constantine is
famous for. The player as more than happy to get out of this triple session
regime , so he could focus on getting properly fit for his club season.
Sandesh
Jhinghan is a different case, the player has been carrying a shoulder & toe
injury for over a year, and refused to get treatment/surgery as recommended by
the Indian NT medical staff , as it could jeopardize his ISL season. Now with
him being in-between clubs , no-one will foot the bill for his surgery , so he
has been released back into the “limbo”
where many an Indian footballer exist.
Not
contracted to an I-League club, and having completed an ISL season , any player
representing the NT at this camp , risks serious injury , and without the
safety net of an insurance package. ( we all recall Gabriel Fernandes injury in
Gauhati which AIFF didn’t take responsibility for)
A
lot of players are disillusioned with Constantine and his training methods, and
would rather not attend his long camps. They cite that their only win has come
in a game which wasn’t preceded by a long camp !
Off
the record more than half of his starting XI versus GUAM were hoping to skip
the SAFF Cup, and hope the U-23 players were blooded for this.
Given
his dismal record, and his job being on the line, one can understand why
Constantine has done a U-turn on playing the U-23 squad.
Had
he picked a U23 squad, he could easily have justified his need for a longer
cam; professional senior players however are used to proper scientific training
with adequate rests as they have experienced under experienced coaches at ISL
and I-League clubs
