At the end of the first half there was a scuffle in the dugout and Westwood played down the incident stating, “Nothing to report. Just normal football banter. The Mohun Bagan officials were shouting at us. Nothing major.”
“Three players on the pitch should not have been on. Jeje, Pronay Halder and Prabir Das. They were called for the SAG camp and never got sent and nothing was ever done about it. I know for a fact they got called. I have seen the official sheet and spoke to Lee Johnson who confirmed their names. I am quite certain there is a rule, I-League or FIFA rule, stating that you have to release players for the camp.
God, making him out to be a monster. Is this just the continual "fuck you" to the English on this forum?
No one is demonizing him, everyone is criticizing him for his uncalled-for comments and his high-and-mighty behaviour. It's a fact that he has been warned by the AIFF for getting embroiled in several controversies in the recent past, getting into fisticuffs and once even breaking a glass pane at the Salt Lake Stadium in 2014 for which he was awarded a four-match suspension and was slapped with a fine of Rs. 50, 000 for his unsporting behaviour. This year he made racial abuses at the East Bengal officials and got away scot-free only because there was no mention of it in the match commissioner's reports. He might be right about Mohun Bagan refusing to release their players, but that is no warrant for his own behaviour. BTW, humility and respect for other coaches and players is the sign of a good coach and human being.
Oh get off your white knight horse with that "humility and respect for other coaches and players is the sign of a good coach and human being."
And I still downplay those "racial slurs"... guy coaches an Indian side with a majority Indian line-up. I still believe he probably made a comment about Indian players, maybe something about how they all can't do this with the ball or they have bad running form or something and someone got a little but hurt.
Majority of this stuff happens against East Bengal and Mohun Bagan as well and no offense, but we have Indian coaches who I believe a lot of people would consider utter wankers.
Westwood being a sore loser as always. SAG is not a FIFA or even AFC approved tournament, no club is bound to release players for it. Too bad the Engishman doesnt know the rules..boofrikkinhoo
Rather than criticizing me, you should stop cosying up to Englishmen/Europeans whenever anyone says anything against them. I remember your trying to defend the indefensible when Peter Ramage and David Platt made highly derogatory comments against India during the ISL. According to you, they were all casual remarks. You should bother about your white knight horse and as a senior member of this forum, use more restraint in your language.
I defended there comments cause they were not bad! I even copied their quotes and used them here! You guys are the ones who always get over-defensive whenever someone from England or a country like it makes some comment about India and comments about something like poverty or something, as if it is against the bloody law. Literally, there are comments on this forum that specifically call out the English on this.
You guys just nitpick at certain comments that you all don't like and roll with it as if these guys are saying "Haha, England is better and richer and India is dirty and poor" when that is not what is happening! They are just talking of their experience, specially when for a lot of these guys, it is there first voyage outside the UK.
These comments are more like an ego clash between rival coaches fighting for the league title...Sen, hasnt entertained such comments as of now...He is busy dealing with "Sold out " comments on AIFF. ..Waiting for what Sen replies
So did I! I too copied their quotes and showed that how they had a general condescending air about India. Some of the guys here might have got over-defensive but not all of them have, certainly not me. If it were so, i would not have praised Westwood's coaching abilities. Even if it was their first journey outside UK or Europe for some of these guys and it was something of a culture shock for them, that did not mean that they would make unsubstantiated comments, as Ramage did, that India is the one place where poverty strikes you the most. Has he visited all the other countries of the earth? The one problem I have with you, and with some of the members of this forum, is that you become too vituperative on certain occasions. We all know that we are passionate about Indian football and the occasional bad word slips out, but we should all realize that certain limits should not be crossed. At the end of the day, however, it has been great arguing with you: I hope to have disagreed without being disagreeable.
How am I being bitter here? I just looked at the Peter Ramage article again and honestly what is the big deal? Where does he say that India is the one place on earth where poverty strikes you? The word "poverty" is used only 3 times within the entire article and only once by Ramage himself and the other by the author.
With Platt, he talks about how life is different between India and the UK and an actual quote from him is this: 'To us, it looks like chaos but to them, it is everyday life. That is why I find it so endearing. Nobody bats an eyelid.'
Maybe I sound crazy and delusional now but fuck it, I could care less.
