Academy setups are only as good as how you utilize the young talent coming through to the first team. In this regard, Southampton, Crewe Alexandra, Spurs, Liverpool, Man Utd and Everton have all done well in England, but in terms of success, Chelsea, Man City and even Aston Villa have won the trophies but rarely give any substantial opportunities for younger players.
Sporting, Barcelona, Ajax, Santos are all examples of academies who not only bring through players, but also make it a strong pint to push the younger players to win tournaments from a very young age.
I was just thinking what does it mean at the end of the day. Noticed some huge results for Malaysia u-13. So, how do we interpret things here? I hope you guys see my point here.
Lim Teong Kim’s charges emerged as the best amongst 16 teams that were participating in CdS edition. Household names like Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Sporting could not deny these young Malaysians, their moment in the sun.
I hope all these great scorelines result in some youth contracts for the colts. If not now then Atleast immediately after the WC . They will be wasted in india..
When you are 10/11/12/13/ it is very very difficult to judge young players. 15/16/17 you get a good idea what they are all about and who has the potential. It is also worth noting that lots of kids of growth spurts around 15/16/17, so while the Malaysia U13s did well, I wouldn't be reading to much into that now. International scouts for these very reasons, don't do any pertinent scouting until kids in the U15/U16 or even U17 tournaments.
