Defensive Football is not bad if done efficiently. Catenaccio system practised by great Italian Teams of the time gone by was beautiful to watch and Italians were efficient executors of good Defense system. The way Indian U-17 and U-19 teams have lost matches 0-4, 0-5 they can hardly be called successful in Defense. Poor skills, poor coordination, poor physicality is the sole reason. A weak team will play Long Ball and heroically defend, that is also beyond their capability. They should first realise their true potential and then play accordingly. Just because we hosted the tournament, it does not mean that we are at world level and lets play tiki-taka and attacking football and win-that is not going to happen. Improve step by step.
The problem is, if you just concentrate on defending (and even then not doing that well), you shouldn't neglect the counter attacking aspect. Matos simply puts no effort into at least going forward. A quick run down of the results under Matos will tell you that.
@Munna, Agree to an extent. But not many teams in the world can play entire match defensively yet come out victorious. That requires skills of another level. Ital is an exception, the reason catalatian defense is practised mostly by Italy
We also should stop being happy and applauding the team with 2-0 or 3-0 defeats. I would take a 5-2 or 6-2 any day over this 2-0 without even a single shot on goal
